“My first love was some insignificant boy when it should have been myself.” - Michelle K.
You can always remember your first love.
He gave your world the emotions that you thought only existed in romance novels and Hallmark movies. You smiled more around him and found that you didn’t really care that you laughed too loud or that you were ten pounds heavier than you wanted to be.
He loved you just the way you were, so the way you were was fine by you.
But when he left, you realized that he wasn’t the only thing missing from your life anymore.
You were missing the love that you’d had for yourself.
When you fall in love with a guy before you fall in love with yourself, his inevitable exit from your life leaves a gaping hole that you could have never seen coming.
You look in the mirror and instead of seeing the beautiful person that you are, you see that your skin isn’t flawless and that you have stretch marks on your hips. When you take selfies, you can only see that your face isn’t perfectly symmetrical.
You find that you’re self conscious about speaking out in groups. You worry that you laugh too loud or that your jokes aren’t really funny.
You realize that you don’t love yourself...at all.
Yes, that guy was great and he made you feel things that you had only dreamt of feeling, but even he couldn’t make you realize that you were complete.
Your first love should have been yourself, because you were a whole person without him and you will be a whole person even if he’s gone.
