They really screwed us all over with this you’ll-have-it-all-figured-out-in-no-time thing. Now we’re all of a sudden trying to find ourselves in a world that seems incapable of providing anything except doors that continuously slam in our faces.
Plenty of people told us we would find our way, but no one cared to mention that there would be no 'AHA! moment' along the way.
It turns out the confirmation from the universe that we’re doing everything right doesn’t actually exist... shit.
But before you panic here’s a little bit of comfort. Everyone is just as clueless as you are. So it’s time to stop wallowing in our own perceived failure and realize that everyone else is in exactly the same boat.
Instead of cursing the universe because you’re not a millionaire at twenty-something, let’s take a more realistic look at where we are at this moment.
You have a roof over your head and some type of job to pay the bills, you are doing better than a large percentage of your cohort.
You’re pretty much self-sufficient and not asking mom and dad for help every other week, you’re killing the game.
You have a family who loves you and friends who would do anything for you, you’re golden.
So you have no idea what your dreams are, but that's fine because you’re determined to reach for them anyway, you’re on the right track.
This idea we have that everything has to be perfect is only setting us up for disappointment. Life is unpredictable, life is messy, and it can definitely kick your ass.
But life can also give you gifts you never imagined and that’s what makes it beautiful.
Embrace who you are, grab onto where you’ve been, and propel yourself towards where you’re going... even if you’re unsure which direction that is exactly. We’re all terrified of what the future brings, but that’s the point.
Next time you feel like you’re the only one doing it wrong, stop and take a second to consider that this is right where you belong. When you think you’re the only one waking up every morning wondering when your epiphany will come, remind yourself you’re not alone.
Having no clue who you are or your purpose doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re doing everything right.
One day, you’ll look back on these years and have no idea how it went so fast. Maybe you wouldn’t change a thing, but maybe you’ll wish you could do them over.
Not necessarily because you’d do anything differently, but because you wasted them wishing you could fast forward through time.
No matter what, the clock keeps ticking. Make sure you don’t waste a second.
