I only have you as my sister, and I had no choice in it. I’m not one to consider myself a very lucky person, but I will never be able to explain how I got so lucky to call you my older sister, let alone call you my best friend.
Despite our age difference, you have always listened to me when I needed you. When I felt like nobody understood me, you always did. When I felt more alone than anything else, you reminded me that you will always remain right by my side.
A phone call, a text message, a drive to see you–– I know that you will always be there for me. You have listened to my repeated stories about all the stupid boys and have never let me forget how special I am or that I’m worth more than their games.
Well, this is my turn to tell you how special you are.
You, as my sister, are worth more than a million best friends. You make fun of me, tease me, love me, and support me. You hold secrets I have uttered to no other soul and I know you could hold a thousand more.
You have filled me with strength, power, confidence, and everything that makes me who I am today. I can truly and completely say that without you, I would not be who I am today. Without you, I wouldn’t be anything.
I have many goals in my life, but one of my highest is to be at least half the person you are. You inspire me more than you probably realize. I admire you more than I admire anybody else, and if I become even half the person you are, I lived a life worth living.
You are my human diary, my life endeavors have been told to you and lived with you. You are my foundation in a world that constantly tears people down. You are a light in any darkness I have ever known and your words have carried me through it all.
I’ve watched you move mountains, and in your steps, I have learned to move my own. I have watched you become everything you have dreamed to be, and in that, I know that my dreams too, can be achieved.
But I’ve also listened to you get down on yourself. I watched you question your every move, wondering if what you’re doing is the right thing. I’ve seen you talk about yourself worse than anyone else and I just wish I could slap you through the phone. You are the perfect example of a strong, powerful woman, even if you don’t always feel it. You are one of the kindest, most loving people I have had the privilege of not just meeting, but knowing. You are everything I have ever dreamed to be and never forget that.
You’ve taught me it’s okay to cry and it’s okay to fight. You’ve taught me that my mind and body are my own and nobody can ever take that away from me. You’ve showered me in the knowledge I can’t learn from school or books, but the knowledge I can only learn from having a sister like you.
So these are my words to you, Sissy, your power, and strength have fueled me to become all that I am. The bad days, the bad boys, the unloyal friends–– you’ve been there through it all. You’ve held me up and have been the keeper of my heart and soul.
You are a queen, a warrior, a mother, a sister, a friend. You are my daily inspiration and for that, I thank you more than I know how to explain; I love you more than these words can tell you.
