To The Girl Who's Ready to Feel Again

So something happened.

Something big.

Something that shook your world so hard that you numbed yourself to all feeling, even the great ones.

It changed you; it made you colder and more distant, dimming the light inside of you.

I know that you are now starting to feel the pain of it, the numbness is wearing off and the sting of loss is piercing you like a nail.

It can be overwhelming to deal with loss of any kind, especially if it's the kind of loss that breaks your heart or takes someone away that you swore you'd never live without.

Dealing with the pain is the first step.

It's easier to block out all your emotions, even the good ones; so much easier.

So, never forget, letting yourself process the pain, and letting people back in your life is one of the strongest things you can do.

It takes guts.

The good thing with starting to feel all your emotions again, is you get to feel the happy ones too.

You can laugh again; and not the fake laugh you've been doing so you don't bum out your friends; a real laugh until you can't breathe, laugh.

You can meet new people and even though it will be hard to let them in, getting to know them doesn't hurt.

You may surprise yourself, with how easy it is to open up to the right person.

This will probably follow you for awhile. You might become more cautious when it comes to relationships and letting your guard down, but it won't be like this forever.

It's OK to be a little damaged.

Sometimes, the most beautiful and complex souls, have walls that need to be broke down.

That's what makes them so special.

You are special and don't let any bad thought that creeps into your brain tell you different.

I don't believe things happen for a reason, but I do believe our reaction to them is key to determining who we are.

So, be the girl that lets herself feel again.

Be the girl that smiles on the freeway to herself when her favorite song is on, be the girl that cries at happy memories, be the girl who loves life and lives it to the fullest.

Heartbreak is inevitable, but sometimes happiness is inevitable too.

You just got to let yourself feel it.
