I believe you can tell a lot about a person based on the TV shows they passionately recommend to their friends and potential love interests. By tell a lot, I mean basically everything you need to know.
I was hoping I would find a guy who loved all the same shows as me and we would instantaneously fall in love, just like how it happens in basically every show I watch...
However it was not what I expected...
Recommendation: Breaking Bad. (and sort of The Office)
He gave no explanation for his pick, but I'm assuming that he knew Breaking Bad's representation speaks for itself. I have never seen it. So, I told him I like The Mindy Project. He mentioned he loved Mindy in The Office. I did too Ryan, I did too.
Recommendation: Impractical Jokers
I had never heard of this. So, I inquired. His description: "4 guys go out in public and they have to do or say things, that other guys tell. So freaking funny." Chad has rode an elephant. You should trust his opinion and give the show a chance. I know I am.
Recommendation: Atlanta (and then Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul)
I have not heard of the show Atlanta, so I asked what it was about. (It should be noted, none of the guys freely described their recommendation.) His description: "It's new on FX. Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) is head writer and actor." This had me super intrigued. I saw Childish Gambino live and loved his shorts.
I asked if Atlanta was a comedy and his response was "Yeah it's sorta comedy. idk how to really describe it." A mystery! I think I will probably check this one out.
This is where mine and Jake's future gets foggy. He asks me if I have seen Breaking Bad and I said no. He immediately took back his earlier suggestion and said "What??? watch that!" I explained that I had seen the first episode, but I got bored.
The first episode is his favorite episode....
We haven't spoken since. Way to go Taylor.
Preston says he's going to recommend something obscure that I probably haven't seen, Portlandia. I have seen Portlandia and I think it's weird, funny and great. I did express that since it's based on the Portland area sometimes I feel like it's a giant inside joke and I'm not in on it. (I'm in Los Angeles.)
My fear that I was watching Portlandia as a misinformed outsider was confirmed when he told me that he is from the Northwest and that's why he loves it. I still watch it and think it's hilarious.
Preston also likes Parks and Rec and sent me a Ron gif. Could it be love?
Recommendation: Stranger Things, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The League, Arrested Development, Baby Animals of Planet Earth
Woah Soren. You watch A LOT of TV. I do too, I dig that. Also Kimmy Schmidt is great. I'm going to second Soren's recommendation on that one.
He was so confident in his recommendations that he told me "watch any one of them and I guarantee you'll watch a whole season in one sitting." He was most confident in Stranger Things. Stranger Things is definitely now on my to watch list, but only during the day because scary stuff science fiction stuff guys.
Recommendation: Saved By The Bell
Classic show. I think almost everyone has seen this show. However, he was SHOCKED that I had heard of Saved By The Bell, let alone watched it. It's older, but a classic. I recommend it as well, if you haven't seen it.
This was not a recommendation I was hoping for, but it hold up on a rainy day. If we were recommending TV shows from different decades then I would've said The Nanny or Who's The Boss!
No, that's not a new tv show. When I asked for a TV recommendation, his response was "DTF?"
None of the guys I asked picked any of my favorite TV shows. So, I gather we are not soul mates. Also where are the guys who are sentimental and watch cheesy romantic comedies!? My next question for future matches will be "Favorite romantic comedy?"
Mark my words, I will get these guys to admit that, deep down, they are hopeless romantics. Hope they gave you some good TV choices, or some insight into your next binge-a-thon.
