A Thank You to My Low Maintenance Best Friend

Let me just start this off by saying that when I say “low maintenance,??? I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. On the contrary, it is the reason that I love you. When I say you’re “low maintenance,??? I mean that our friendship doesn’t require constant texting, conversation, or hanging out. We don’t see each other often because we’re both so busy doing our own things, but when we do, it’s like no time has passed.

Dear Best Friend,

Thank you for always being there when I need you. Whether it’s been weeks, or months, (or god forbid years) since we’ve talked, I’m so glad that I can always count on you for your help and advice.  For the record, I really hope years don’t pass before we’re reunited.

Thank you for all the love you send my way, even when I haven’t seen you in awhile. The Insta likes, the occasional Snapchats, and the quick catch up texts really do make my day. It’s always nice to know that there is someone in my corner, despite all the space and time that might be between us.

Thanks to you, I’ve learned how to be there for someone who isn’t always physically there.  I’ve learned the importance of a quick phone call or “how are you doing???? text because you never know when the other might have something to say. And we’re always there for each other if that’s the case.

Thank you for letting me live my own life. I know that sounds completely selfish, but it’s actually not. You be you and I’ll be me, right? We’re both busy with our own lives, so we don’t always have the time to catch up on a regular basis—but when we always try to make it a point to catch up.  Besides, it normally leads to some good stories to tell each other along the way.

With you there’s no drama, no bullsh*t, only love for each other. And that’s what a friendship should be. We’ve been through a lot together, and even more without each other, but it’s always nice to have someone to lean on or an outsider’s opinion. And that’s what you, my low maintenance best friend, are for.

I love that we don’t have to see each other all the time, but we still remain close as ever. It’s comforting to know that in a world where distance can keep so many people apart, we can still find ways to be close. You’re my go-to anytime I really need a friend or a shoulder to cry on—just as I am for you. And it is a mutual understanding that no matter how much time has passed since we’ve seen each other, if one of us really needs the other, we’ll be there as soon as we can.

And that’s what friendship is all about.
