“I found someone It just happened outta the blue, Even though I'm moving on It don't mean that I don't still love you, You'll always have A place here in my heart, But somewhere in this new life I've begun I found someone.” - Blake Shelton
No matter how many relationships a person may have, everyone has that one person, they don’t necessarily 'get over.'
Sure, time forces them both to move on, and eventually they stop thinking of other, but if they ever crossed paths, every emotion would rush back to them, along with every memory.
And that's who he was to her, he was that one guy her heart will always hold on to.
Truly, they gave it their best shot, they both wanted it to work, but there's a difference between wants and needs.
They sometimes mistook that. Because as hard as it was to accept, they were better apart than they ever were together.
It didn’t mean love wasn’t there, just that the right love wasn’t there.
She wondered if she could ever care about someone or love someone as deeply as she loved him. So wholeheartedly and unconditionally.
And she's come to accept that it isn’t possible. Because love taught her how far she’d be willing to go for someone, and what exactly she’d never do for someone again.
She would've given him everything, even if that meant giving herself nothing in return, she was just that breed of big hearted.
But the right kind of love is met half way, bearing nothing too much to give, other than company and love. It’s a 50/50 thing.
And they couldn't quite master that, which is okay, because rooted underneath all of that upset and confusion and miscommunications was love.
The type of love so solid that if ever their paths cross again in the future, he'll look at her and she’ll look at him, and they’ll each remember bits and pieces of their past that'll make them smile.
She’ll smile at him and he’ll smile at her, and they both know each other made it and that they're happy.
Because that's all they really want for one another: pure, undeniable happiness.
She's beyond grateful to have him in her past, even if he didn’t make it to the future, because she will always love him.
And she hopes he knows if he ever needed anything, she’d be there in a heartbeat.
Because there was once a time where they weren’t just loves but also my best friends.
The loyalty he showed to her during that time and the love they tried to make work, it all made her realize how great of a human being he was and in turn made her a better person.
Admittedly, the person who follows in his footsteps has some big shoes to fill. It would be disrespectful to him, as well as herself, to settle for anything less than the bar he raised so high.
If she could go back in time and change anything about them, even the bad stuff, she wouldn't, because he was always worth it.
“Look at what I've done to her Look at how I made her feel She's found somebody new And look who took the time to heal And look at what it's done to me You gotta know it tears me up To have walked away from the love we made And just leave it in a cloud of dust And now it's got me thinkin' maybe I was wrong After all the things I've done to her Now she's strong.” - Chris Cagle
