Eye Masks

Sheet masks have been all the rage in recent years, but model Lily Aldridge is all about the eye masks that are trending right now. She loves them for travel, especially on airplanes because they encourage her to close her eyes and simply relax. Eye masks that come as little patches are her favorite for on-the-go and they’re great for de-puffing the eyes, even when you’ve only had a few hours of sleep. It sounds like a trend we can all get behind!

Retinol & Lactic Acid

Shani Darden, a celebrity esthetician, has always recommended retinol, but she’s really loving the combination of retinol and lactic acid that’s trending right now. She uses the combo daily and says it’s an excellent multi-tasker for boosting collagen, minimizing wrinkles and fine lines, keeping acne at bay, and fading hyperpigmentation. Whether you find one product that has both ingredients or use them separately, this combo can really transform the skin!

At Home Micro-Needling Tools

Until recently, micro-needling was only available at your esthetician or dermatologist’s office. But Beauty Bio has released an at-home micro-needling tool called the GloPRO. Celebrities like Cassandra Huysentruyt Grey are loving it for its ability to regenerate the skin, promote firmness, and just make the skin look more youthful overall. The treatment is painless, and Cassandra loves it for helping serums penetrate more deeply into the skin.

How to Detox After the Holidays

It happens every year. The holiday temptations are just too much to resist. After all, how can you say no to that gorgeous cheese plate, those yummy Christmas cookies, or that delicious holiday ham? And let’s not forget the cocktails, pumpkin spice lattes, and eggnog. But once the holidays are over, all of that overindulgence is bound to leave you feeling more than a little bloated and sluggish.

There’s no doubt that most of us could benefit from a reset after the holidays. But that doesn’t mean you need to kill yourself at the gym or live on celery sticks for the next few weeks to get things balanced again. With a little support and a nudge in the right direction, your body can detox itself after the holidays. No crash diet required!

Back to Basics

Sometimes it’s the simplest changes that can have a positive impact on how you feel. Lemons are known to offer several health benefits, including stimulating digestion. When you combine the benefits of lemons with water, you’re also hydrating your body, which is key in order to detox and feel better in general.

Start each day with a cup of warm water and fresh-squeezed lemon to nudge your digestive system into motion. And then, sip on lemon water throughout the day to keep your liver and kidneys in tip-top shape and encourage the detoxifying process.

Green tea is also great for digestion and boosting metabolism. You can even add lemon to your green tea for an extra boost. If you’re suffering from heartburn, indigestion, gas, bloating, or irritated bowels, try sipping on fennel tea after meals. It soothes the digestive tract and calms the stomach while improving digestion.

Nourish Your Body with Fruits and Veggies

It’s tempting to skip meals after you’ve overindulged, but you’re much better off nourishing your body with nutrient-dense fruits and veggies that are also hydrating. When in detox mode, limit your intake of animal proteins and go for plant-based proteins instead. Plant-based foods are easier on the digestive systems and will support your body’s efforts to detox itself.

Consider Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon hydrotherapy is a safe and gentle way to improve your digestion, remove harmful toxins and excess waste from your intestines, and rebalance your gut. A colonics treatment will reset your digestive system by cleansing your bowel. Not only that, but colon cleansing can also give you an energy boost, improve your mood, relieve chronic headaches, clear up acne, and reduce joint pain and inflammation throughout the body.

Try Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting is a great way to give your digestive system a break without having to endure a full-on fast. It can help you lose weight and detoxify your body without feeling like you’re on a diet. To do an intermittent fast, eat your last meal of the day no later than 7 PM. When you get up in the morning, have a cup of bulletproof coffee to help you feel satiated until lunchtime When you’re ready to break your fast, eat a healthy lunch as you normally would. This will keep your body in a healthy fasting state for around 16 hours, forcing your body to burn fat as fuel and your gut to reset. You don’t need to do this every day, once a week is plenty.

Get Moving

Exercise is important for your overall health and giving your sluggish digestive system and metabolism a boost, but that doesn’t mean you have to drag yourself to the gym. Find a form of exercise you love, such as dancing, swimming, or simply taking long walks in the fresh air. Yoga is a great way to get your body back into balance, plus it relieves stress and boosts your mood. You could attend a class in your community, or stream one online.

Hit an Infrared Sauna

One of the easiest ways to get a good sweat going and detox your body is to hit an infrared sauna. Infrared saunas are more comfortable than traditional saunas because the infrared light heats objects in the sauna, rather than the air, which allows your body to get a good sweat going at lower temperatures. If you don’t have an infrared sauna in your area, a traditional one will still do the trick. Sweating is amazing for detoxifying the body and it may also you lose weight.

Get Your Probiotics

A healthy gut is essential for good digestion, detoxification, and weight loss. Probiotics are healthy gut bacteria that can rebalance your gut after you’ve overindulged. The best way to get your probiotics is to eat some probiotic foods every day, such as yogurt and fermented foods. You can also take a probiotic supplement to give your body an extra boost of healthy bacteria.

Most importantly, don’t beat yourself up for overindulging during the holidays. We all give in to temptation this time of year. The good news is, the damage isn’t permanent and making some simple changes to your lifestyle will get things back on track pretty quickly.

From Dating To Engaged: How To Handle The Transition

The shift begins from ‘just dating’ to a ‘serious relationship’. You both realize that you’re ready to be engaged. You both have found the person you’ve been waiting to spend your life with. Now what? It is time to transition from dating to engaged.

How Do You Know You Are Ready To Be Engaged?

You know you are ready for engagement because your relationship is strong and has a future. Engagement is a big commitment and not one that either of you should take lightly. There is going to be a big shift in the relationship. Here are some ways you can both better prepare for that transition.

Communication Is Key

One of the best indicators you are ready is that communication comes easily. Both parties are heard, and you can openly talk to each other. You both know that expressing your feelings and thoughts is ok and you will be understood. You have the ability to communicate and feel secure with your partner. Lack of communication is one of the top reasons for divorce. The ability to discuss things easily is a good foundation for marriage.

Sharing Similar Core Beliefs

You two share similar core beliefs and value systems. Which is a strong indicator that you will be more compatible in a long-term relationship. This is especially important if you are planning on having children together.

Your Finances Are Stable

In addition to communication, finances are probably one of the biggest issues within marriages today. When you both have steady jobs or good sources of income, this is likely not a problem. If you are struggling financially this will have a bigger impact on you as a couple. Take some time and do your research on ways to save money so that it doesn’t put a damper on your future together.

Both Of You Are Not Looking Elsewhere

If you are at this point in your relationship then it is definitely a sign that engagement is on the way. You are committed to each other and you truly love your significant other for who they are. You should bring out the best in each other, and enjoy all of the moments together.

Dealing With Pressure As A Couple

On the flip side, disagreements will usually weigh more heavily on the both of you at this time. Because the transition to engagement is coming, there is more pressure for getting along all the time, and it can truly seem like the worst thing when you have a fight. It creates panic and then those “what ifs” start creeping into your head.  Pay attention to how you both get through those times. If you’re able to talk things out and makeup quickly, then there should be nothing to worry about. Every relationship will have its ups and downs, so things aren’t always going to be great between the two of you.

Navigating The Change In The Status Of Your Relationship

Now that you feel your life is fulfilled and that you are ready to call him or her “fiancé” you’re onto the next steps. The steps are long from dating to engaged. Be prepared to acknowledge the fact that even though things may not change on the surface, there will be a big shift in the relationship, and some things are going to change. Instead of making the plans right away, there are a couple of things that happen during this transition:

  • OTHER PEOPLE WILL TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY AND TREAT YOU DIFFERENTLY. This is because now you’re declaring your commitment to the world and people see you’re not just ‘boyfriend’ or ‘girlfriend’, and they may invest more of their time in you.
  • YOU WILL GET FLOODED WITH ADVICE.  From everything from who you should use to cater your wedding to the wedding music  to who you should play or the band you should hire, everyone is going to want to have their say about your wedding and what you should do. This is especially true for couples who are already married because they feel they can give you the best advice since they did it. Be prepared to take note of the advice you get, but not necessarily take it all to heart. Remember, this is your big moment of engagement, and your wedding to plan together.

If you can get through the transition, you’re doing great. Becoming engaged is a truly magical moment, and the excitement can fade very quickly once the stress of the engagement and wedding plans start to arise. So take deep breaths and just work through one thing at a time.

Remember Time For Yourself

Practicing self-care is still important even when you’re half of a couple or a fiancé. You should be okay with taking your time away from each other to do things, like engaging in hobbies or spending time with other friends or family. Engagement should not be entered into as a way to fix any sort of relationship problems. You should feel both secure and comfortable when you’re together and when you are apart.

You should work with each other as a team, but you can also take care of things separately, focusing on your strengths to get things done more efficiently. This can particularly help when you start your wedding plans together. If you’re better at putting the invitations together and your partner can handle discussions with the caterer, then split up the tasks as such.

Enjoy The Moment

Lastly, be sure to really enjoy the transition from a serious relationship to engagement. Since it is short-lived, you want to try and ride that wave before settling into the chaos of planning. As one of the biggest and most important events in your life, it should be an incredible moment when you or your significant other proposes. There’s no room for stress or freaking out. You’re comfortable and happy, and ready to take on the world together. Enjoy the ride from dating to engaged.

Top 8 Makeup Trends to Try in 2020

Beauty enthusiasts across the globe have been on the edge of their seats waiting for the Spring 2020 shows! Now that they’ve come and gone, there are a ton of hot new 2020 makeup trends to play around with.

Don’t worry about waiting until spring to try them out, either. Seasonal trends don’t apply anymore, thanks to the digital age and social media!

If you want to flaunt a gorgeous fluorescent orange lipstick as the Versace models wore in the spring shows, we think you should go for it! It would be the perfect show-stopping look for New Year’s!

Spring 2020 Makeup Trends

So, let’s dive into the looks we saw over and over again on the runway and how they can inspire your makeup right now. While some of these looks have been popping up here and there over the last year, others were a total surprise!

For example, neon eyeshadow made several appearances on the catwalk in the Fall shows. We’ve also noticed several celebs rocking watercolor shadow over the past few months. If the Spring shows are any indication, both looks will be even hotter for 2020.

Although some trends might be a little outrageous for a day at the office (like gluing Swarovski crystals all over your face), we saw lots of wearable makeup trends in the Spring shows. Our advice? Take your inspiration from the runway, and then adapt the look to your taste and the occasion. Want some new eyeliner hues when you are feeling like color over smokey black? Best Blue Eyeliners are here!

One of the hottest colors for makeup, hair accessories, and fashion in the coming season is shiny, shimmering gold. Valentino’s makeup artist Pat McGrath embraced the hue by gluing false gold eyelashes on the models for the runway. That’s probably a little much for many of us, but most of us could pull off a dusting shimmering golden eyeshadow for a night out to embrace the trend without looking too over the top.

If you’re ready to take your makeup game to the next level, here are our favorite makeup looks from the spring runway:

Rock That Glitter

The models on the runway were wearing gorgeous glitter in a variety of shades, from jewel tones to electric hues and even black and white. The glitter was smudged all around the eyes in messy, sort of haphazard way that made the look very edgy. At home, try a glittery liner smudged around the eyes for a holiday party or special night out.

Watercolor Shadow

Watercolor, or tie-dye shadow, has been an up and coming trend both on the runway and the red carpet in recent months. Judging by its prevalence in the spring shows, this dreamy eyeshadow look is set to really take off in 2020. This colorful look can easily be toned up or down to suit any occasion, depending on what you’re going for.

Pops of Neon

Neon makeup was a major trend last season and it looks like it will be sticking around for 2020. Some models on the runway were rocking shades of electric green, ultraviolet purple, vivid fuchsia around their eyes. Others wore bright fluorescent shades of pink or orange on the lips. Although this is definitely a party or club look, it’s something most of us could tone up or down depending on what we’re comfortable with. Those who are a little more daring might try a neon cat eye, which a spring trend all on its own.

Art School Makeup

Several makeup artists went all artsy on the models at the spring shows, too. With some looks, it was easy to see that the makeup was inspired by a specific artist or piece of artwork. Other looks were done in a way that looked painterly and artistic. Probably aren’t going to be painting happy little clouds on your eyelids, but you could certainly pull off defined cat eyes and stamped on red lips if you love this trend.

Gold, Gold, and More Gold

We already mentioned that shiny, shimmering gold was everywhere on the spring runways. Basically, the look is all gold everything! Not just on the eyes and lips, but also gold hair accessories, gold jewelry, and more. It’s easy to adapt this look for every day and tone it up or down, depending on your mood. Try a sweep of gold shadow or a dusting of gold glitter at the eye corners with some chunky gold earrings to pull off the trend without going over the top.

3D Makeup

The faces of some models in the spring shows were covered in gorgeous glued on crystals in intricate patterns. Other models had just one statement crystal glued on the lower lash line or at the eye corner. Some even had sequins and gemstones in tear or mask patterns. It’s true that the average gal isn’t going to wear 3D makeup every day, but a pretty crystal or gemstone on the lash line or eye corner for a holiday party would be a beautiful look.

White Eyeliner

White eyeliner has been a growing trend in Korean cosmetics recently and the look made several appearances on the spring runways for 2020, too. If you want to experiment with a fun makeup trend but aren’t ready for glitter or neon all over your face, white eyeliner is a great compromise. The look is trendy, fresh, and wide awake without looking crazy for daytime.

Glossy All Over

Gloss, gloss, and them some more gloss was the main vibe at Chanel’s spring show. Models had glossy eyes, lips, and skin… all at once! To pull off this trend at home, try dabbing a bit of clear gloss over your lipstick, or use it to accentuate your cheekbones or eyelids.

There are all kinds of makeup trends to inspire you in 2020! The main vibe is bright and fun, and it definitely looks like the minimal makeup look will be taking a backseat for a while. Whether you go bold with neon orange lips or more subtle with white eyeliner, there’s a makeup trend for everyone to try in 2020! Check out our other article on makeup courses to try!

How Practicing Self Care Can Actually Improve Your Relationship

Self-care can improve your relationships. Really, it’s true. We’ve all been there at some point in our lives. You know… the feeling of being completely tapped out to the point where you have nothing left to give to anyone else, much less yourself.

Maybe you’ve worked too many late shifts or had too many dates that didn’t end well. Maybe you’re just under too much pressure from all sides.

That sense of total depletion (some call it burnout) takes a major toll on the way you feel about yourself, and it affects your relationships with those around you, especially your partner.

The only way to avoid becoming burned out is to learn how to practice self-care. It really is essential to your personal well-being and your relationships.

Taking care of yourself means that intentionally take steps to improve your mental, emotional, and physical health… your overall wellbeing. You’re making an investment in yourself.

While self-care can mean something different to everyone, it simply comes down to taking care of you.

How Self-Care Can Actually Improve Your Relationship

One of the first things you need to acknowledge is that taking care of yourself does not mean that you are being selfish. According to Vanessa Scotto from the Yinova Center, “The moment we all decide that self-love is healthy and optimal for everyone is the moment we breed a more uplifted and whole society.”

There is so much truth in that statement, and it applies to your relationships with everyone around you, including your partner. Self-care takes constant effort and should be taken seriously.

By investing in yourself, you are cultivating positive behaviors that will extend into other parts of your life and your relationship. Taking care of yourself means that you are more understanding, more patient, and more rested.

And all of those things make you more available to your partner. Finding a good balance between loving yourself and loving your partner strengthens and unifies your relationship in a way nothing else can.

Self-Care Also Teaches You Things About Yourself

The journey into self-care can teach you many lessons. One of the most important ones is that you are worthy of being loved. First and foremost, by yourself, but also by your partner.

Once you learn this truth, you will begin to place value on your own needs. You’ll learn how to set boundaries for yourself, develop compassion for yourself, and build a positive body image.

Self-care teaches you about what’ really important to you. It teaches you how to take care of yourself so you can take care of your partner.

Once you know how to give to yourself, you can give and take from others in a healthy way. Taking care of yourself has a positive effect on the quality of your life, which also affects the quality of the experiences you share with your partner.

How to Begin Practicing Self-Care

Everyone will have a different idea of what self-care looks like, but these practices will get you pointed in the right direction if you have no idea where to start.

  • Meditate: Many of us head to the gym to train our bodies, but we don’t think about training our minds. Meditating draws your mind inward, away from all the stress and demands of a hectic life. It can help you heal, relax, and most importantly, just rest. If you’ve never meditated before, many communities have classes for beginners, and guided videos are easy to find online.
  • Journal: Journaling helps you gain insight into your own thoughts and feelings. Keep track of what you eat and see how it affects the way you feel. Do certain activities or people make you feel depressed or anxious? Journaling can help you identify patterns, both good and bad so that you can adjust your routine in a positive way. These adjustments can give you newfound energy to apply to other things, like your relationship with your partner.
  • Exercise: You probably saw this one coming, but it really is important. One of the best ways to improve your mental and physical health is to get moving! According to Harvard Medical School, exercise can relieve depression, improve your focus, help you sleep better, boost your sex drive, and improve your wellbeing in general. They say that all it takes is 20 minutes of exercise each day to increase a woman’s libido by 169%. That’s positive proof that taking care of yourself can also improve your relationship.

5 Career Fields That Can Benefit From Vocal Coaching (Other Than Just Singers!)

Vocal coaching can assist singers in building a better voice through lots of practice, proper breathing, posture and utilizing specific singing techniques.  There are other benefits that voice lessons offer those who learn, including more confidence, compassion, and advanced communication skills. The rewards that stem from hiring and practicing with a voice coach can actually benefit many career paths, not just those of singers. Here we will take a look at 5 specific and alternate careers to a Singer that can learn a lot from working with a vocal coach.

Teachers

Teachers can actually find great reward in working with a vocal coach. Teaching in general, you will learn how another teacher does the job that you do since a vocal coach is also a teacher. While learning about the voice, you can learn their teaching techniques and gain some insight and maybe some teaching tools and tips along the way.

Since teaching requires you to speak in front of an audience, whether being a classroom full of students or a one-on-one tutor, you need to have an engaging voice that projects well. If you don’t have the best self-esteem but you know part of being a teacher is performing in front of a class, voice lessons can help to build your confidence. Additionally, “teachers often overstrain their voices, which can cause damage to their vocal cords and even lead to vocal nodules.

By utilizing vocal coaching and singing lessons, you learn the fundamentals of how to warm up your voice so that you’re less likely to lose it, in addition to practicing vocal care so that you can speak daily without strain.”

Private tutors and online teachers can also reap the benefits of vocal coaching for many of the same reasons, even though the majority of online teaching is more of a one-on-one situation. Vocal coaches focus on correct pronunciation, which, if you’re an online ESL Teacher and are working with children overseas to help them learn English, pronunciation is especially important.

Part of your job is to encourage the correct sounds of vowels and consonants, and voice lessons can assist with that a great deal.

Sales or Marketing Executives

If you desire to have a career where you are constantly working on that next big sales pitch or want to be the one to present how to market a product the best way, vocal coaching can help with this too. Because like with teaching this requires you to stand up and talk frequently in front of people, your voice needs to be in the best shape it can be. Vocal coaching is a great way to exercise your vocal cords, learning proper warm-ups so that you don’t strain or go hoarse during those big presentations. Other types of training designed to improve communication skills can serve you as well.Consider getting in touch with the Throughline Group for custom workshops on public speaking, media training, etc.

Since voice lessons help with your social abilities as well as your confidence, you can really overcome anxieties and stress about public speaking for careers in these fields with some good vocal coaching.

Translators

If you know more than one language or multiple languages, vocal coaching may or may not have been a factor in your learning. However, most people have found that it is much easier

learning language through music, or have found that it can be helpful when studying other languages, to listen to and translate the music in that particular language. It can be beneficial to take vocal coaching for learning other languages. You can take singing lessons to learn songs in Italian, Spanish, or any language that you may be interested in learning, and it can benefit your translating abilities for this career. Music language can use both slang and proper language rules, you can increase your comfort level in a particular language through the music.

Motivational Speakers

This career lends its way to always having to be in the best vocal health. Aside from gaining the confidence and self-esteem needed for public speaking, dynamics will play a key role in this job. This is because when you work with a vocal coaching, you learn the importance of where to put emphasis on certain words and phrases within a song. Musically when you sing, you will learn where to build up the sounds to make a statement, or when to be quiet so the words make more of an impact. As a motivational speaker, you typically are working to both engage and excite your audience.
