Beauty enthusiasts across the globe have been on the edge of their seats waiting for the Spring 2020 shows! Now that they’ve come and gone, there are a ton of hot new 2020 makeup trends to play around with.
Don’t worry about waiting until spring to try them out, either. Seasonal trends don’t apply anymore, thanks to the digital age and social media!
If you want to flaunt a gorgeous fluorescent orange lipstick as the Versace models wore in the spring shows, we think you should go for it! It would be the perfect show-stopping look for New Year’s!
Spring 2020 Makeup Trends
So, let’s dive into the looks we saw over and over again on the runway and how they can inspire your makeup right now. While some of these looks have been popping up here and there over the last year, others were a total surprise!
For example, neon eyeshadow made several appearances on the catwalk in the Fall shows. We’ve also noticed several celebs rocking watercolor shadow over the past few months. If the Spring shows are any indication, both looks will be even hotter for 2020.
Although some trends might be a little outrageous for a day at the office (like gluing Swarovski crystals all over your face), we saw lots of wearable makeup trends in the Spring shows. Our advice? Take your inspiration from the runway, and then adapt the look to your taste and the occasion. Want some new eyeliner hues when you are feeling like color over smokey black? Best Blue Eyeliners are here!
One of the hottest colors for makeup, hair accessories, and fashion in the coming season is shiny, shimmering gold. Valentino’s makeup artist Pat McGrath embraced the hue by gluing false gold eyelashes on the models for the runway. That’s probably a little much for many of us, but most of us could pull off a dusting shimmering golden eyeshadow for a night out to embrace the trend without looking too over the top.
If you’re ready to take your makeup game to the next level, here are our favorite makeup looks from the spring runway:
Rock That Glitter
The models on the runway were wearing gorgeous glitter in a variety of shades, from jewel tones to electric hues and even black and white. The glitter was smudged all around the eyes in messy, sort of haphazard way that made the look very edgy. At home, try a glittery liner smudged around the eyes for a holiday party or special night out.
Watercolor Shadow
Watercolor, or tie-dye shadow, has been an up and coming trend both on the runway and the red carpet in recent months. Judging by its prevalence in the spring shows, this dreamy eyeshadow look is set to really take off in 2020. This colorful look can easily be toned up or down to suit any occasion, depending on what you’re going for.
Pops of Neon
Neon makeup was a major trend last season and it looks like it will be sticking around for 2020. Some models on the runway were rocking shades of electric green, ultraviolet purple, vivid fuchsia around their eyes. Others wore bright fluorescent shades of pink or orange on the lips. Although this is definitely a party or club look, it’s something most of us could tone up or down depending on what we’re comfortable with. Those who are a little more daring might try a neon cat eye, which a spring trend all on its own.
Art School Makeup
Several makeup artists went all artsy on the models at the spring shows, too. With some looks, it was easy to see that the makeup was inspired by a specific artist or piece of artwork. Other looks were done in a way that looked painterly and artistic. Probably aren’t going to be painting happy little clouds on your eyelids, but you could certainly pull off defined cat eyes and stamped on red lips if you love this trend.
Gold, Gold, and More Gold
We already mentioned that shiny, shimmering gold was everywhere on the spring runways. Basically, the look is all gold everything! Not just on the eyes and lips, but also gold hair accessories, gold jewelry, and more. It’s easy to adapt this look for every day and tone it up or down, depending on your mood. Try a sweep of gold shadow or a dusting of gold glitter at the eye corners with some chunky gold earrings to pull off the trend without going over the top.
3D Makeup
The faces of some models in the spring shows were covered in gorgeous glued on crystals in intricate patterns. Other models had just one statement crystal glued on the lower lash line or at the eye corner. Some even had sequins and gemstones in tear or mask patterns. It’s true that the average gal isn’t going to wear 3D makeup every day, but a pretty crystal or gemstone on the lash line or eye corner for a holiday party would be a beautiful look.
White Eyeliner
White eyeliner has been a growing trend in Korean cosmetics recently and the look made several appearances on the spring runways for 2020, too. If you want to experiment with a fun makeup trend but aren’t ready for glitter or neon all over your face, white eyeliner is a great compromise. The look is trendy, fresh, and wide awake without looking crazy for daytime.
Glossy All Over
Gloss, gloss, and them some more gloss was the main vibe at Chanel’s spring show. Models had glossy eyes, lips, and skin… all at once! To pull off this trend at home, try dabbing a bit of clear gloss over your lipstick, or use it to accentuate your cheekbones or eyelids.
There are all kinds of makeup trends to inspire you in 2020! The main vibe is bright and fun, and it definitely looks like the minimal makeup look will be taking a backseat for a while. Whether you go bold with neon orange lips or more subtle with white eyeliner, there’s a makeup trend for everyone to try in 2020! Check out our other article on makeup courses to try!
