27 Bad Dating Habits That Destroy Your Healthy Relationship

You Found Each Other

You’ve found yourself in complete bliss – the happiest, healthiest relationship you could have imagined.  You think your dating habits are on point and he’s perfect for you, so you can’t imagine your healthy relationship getting any better, or any worse for that matter.  However, even the “picture perfect”, healthy relationship can be destroyed with bad dating habits. Don’t get caught up in these little but bad datings habits and destroy your seemingly strong, long-lasting, healthy relationship.

Comparing your relationship to others.

Dating habits vary from person to person, so every relationship is different and none of them can be compared to the other without finding a flaw in the next.  That itself is the immediate downfall in this and the number one bad dating habits.  Could it be that you have found yourself comparing your current, healthy relationship to your last or even your best friend’s long-standing 6-year prince charming?  If so, disappointment is waiting for you.  This is nothing of what it was before, you are a different person now.  It is nothing of what your BFF’s relationship will be because you are in a different place than she is.  Don’t lose sight of the greatness that lies in your relationship based on the overwhelming knowledge of everyone else around you.

Psychoanalyzing his texts.

This is not just a bad dating habit but an unhealthy one. Every little thing he says or doesn’t say does not mean he cares less or is trying to hurt you. Doing this can drive you insane for no reason at all. Text messages can get misconstrued, it’s better to have important conversations in person than be guilty of this bad dating habit.  If you’re getting upset over the text he sent back, try waiting, talking to him in person. If he truly does mean it how he is saying it, he should have the courage to say it to you in person and you deserve the respect to hear it that way.  Don’t get upset over minced words, they may not be what they appear.  But, it could destroy your relationship.

The Girl with the Big Heart Is Selfish for All the Right Reasons

She has a big heart, but she’s selfish. She loves hard, but she always puts herself and her own needs first. So if that’s what defines her as selfish, so be it. It’s only because she’s fully aware of her own worth and knows to a T what she deserves, so the only people in her life are the ones who make her truly happy.

She’s selfish with her family. At the end of the day, they are her everything. That’s why she takes up all of their time. She wants to memorize every wrinkle on their faces when they smile. She wants to be able to hear their voices in her head long after their gone.

She wants to laugh at every joke her dad has, no matter how many times she’s already heard them. She pushes them to do the things she likes to do because she knows it’ll break them out of their comfort zones.

Growing with them is important to her, she wants to create unbreakable bonds filled with unconditional love. She wants the memories with them, the stories, the pictures. She wants it all.

Because one day, they aren’t going to be there for her to run to. One day she’s going to be left on this earth to fend for herself and that leaves her with a heavy heart. So right now, she’s selfish with them.

She’s selfish with the boy she loves. She spends hours wrapped up in his arms. She tells him to tell her he loves her so she can hear it one more time. She kisses him in public and never lets her hand slip out of his.

He means the absolute world to her and it’s this feeling of being able to let down all of her walls around him that she never wants to let go of. So she holds him tight and soaks up every second of her time with him.

She pushes him to introduce her to his family because they are the ones who brought him to her. She pushes for him to meet her parents because together they make up the most important people in her life. She’s selfish with his presence.

She doesn’t want expensive dinners or surprise gifts, those always fade. But what will never fade is her infatuation with him. He makes her feel the happiest she’s ever been so she’ll never let that go.

She’s selfish with her future.  It’s hers and no one else’s, that’s the cold hard truth. And as much as she appreciated the advice from the people in her life, she knows exactly what it is she wants. Only she truly knows what is best for her and she’s not naive.

She knows full well she only has one future to do what she wants with, so she will. So she took that internship, even though it paid nothing at all. And she spent her summers at the beach with her friends instead of job hunting. Because she knows, years from now, she’s going to thank herself for taking time to do exactly what it is she wanted.

She’s selfish with her time. She goes on adventures as much as she can, even the little kind. She goes hiking on Saturday mornings instead of sleeping in. She takes off in her car to explore the city instead of just going home after work. She surprises her mom with lunch in the middle of the day instead of eating at her desk.

She will never yes anyone to death if she straight up does not want to do something she has no problem saying no. She knows every minute is precious and doesn’t want to spend one not enjoying herself.

More importantly, she doesn’t allow her mind to get caught up in her worries. That’s how she loses time. Not everything is going to fall into place exactly how she wants it, when she wants it, she gets that. Being a realistic person, she knows everything will be okay no matter what happens.

But she’ll never be selfish to a fault. She’ll never be the girl who loses sight of important people because she’s too busy looking out for herself. She’ll never be the girl who forgets about those she holds dear because she wanted to travel.

Life takes balance, taking care of yourself and allowing yourself to indulge in the people who mean most. She’ll be kind, graceful, independent, but also dependent at times, romantic, stubborn, loving, and selfish because she loves herself.

Some people will never understand and that’s okay too. She just has to remember that not everyone in this world is going to love her and understand that her happiness is just as important as their own. In fact, this will be because they are being selfish in a bad way.

Life is too short to be unhappy. Be selfish.

Growing Up Without A Dad Doesn't Mean I Have Daddy Issues

I’ve heard it before and I’ll hear it again, “you missed out on having a father, you may have a little bit of ‘daddy issues'”. But that’s just an ignorant statement and far from reality, at least mine and I’m sure many others. The truth is, growing up without a dad doesn’t mean I have daddy issues.

It is no secret, to myself nor anyone else in my life, new or old, that I grew up in a household without a father. I am not the only girl or child who has ever found themselves in this situation, but I will also not neglect that each situation is different.

Particularly, mine was filled with emotional abuse and a life that ended much better off without a father in mind. With that being said, it is important to note that every situation is unique. I put such emphasis on there so as not to encourage people to clump every child within the same category.

I have a past and a trauma, it does not mean I choose to live in it day-by-day. I have grown, I am stronger now. That is the light I wish to be seen in, not in the shadows of my deadbeat dad.

Just because my father was absent does not mean I will go searching to fill some so-called “void” I possess. That is not the case and will surely never be. I don’t go looking for trouble or try to connect with people much older than me simply based on this strong ideal of a father figure. I do not yearn to know what it’s like. I simply don’t stop accusing me of such.

Being fatherless doesn’t mean that I will automatically give every guy the right to treat me like complete and utter garbage. I’m not a doormat just because I didn’t attend a father-daughter dance. There is no justification or correlation to my insecurity and inability to stand up for myself based on the fact that I was only raised by my mother. A single parent does not create an emotionally damaged girl

Just because I grew up in a household with a loving and supportive mother does mean that I got everything I needed for everything I had ever dreamed of. For me, this was exactly how my life was intended to turn out. I grew up with a very loving, dedicated, single mother who gave me the world and then some.

It is not to say that there weren’t hard times for us – more often than not I found myself crying on the bathroom floor wishing things were simpler. But, we make the most out of the cards that are dealt to us. I wouldn’t change the hand I was given for an easier, more simplistic version of this life. If I had, who knows who I’d be today.

I maintained a very stable life with a complete education and a permanent job and continue to work hard at that each and every day. It is clear and a distinct representation of the hard-working person I came to be, even with the lack of a father. For me, in this life, I would not have been nearly as successful had I not gotten away from him.

Stop and think for a minute. It’s as close to a stereotype as it gets and as far past offensive as it can be. Do not look at me and judge based on a human you know nothing about.

Even so, knowing me and justifying my actions based on past experiences isn’t right. Don’t justify things for me. I am human, I will make mistakes. But, I will also guarantee that not a single one of my failures comes from growing up without a father.

To those who set ease and understanding in the fact that young girls without father figures have simply had enough “damage” done, we do not need your pity. For you, this may be the first look you have had at someone with triumph, but for us this is only the beginning.

We are much more than the “daddy issues” you proclaim us to have. We are soon to be much more than they will have ever controlled. Thank you for reminding us that not everyone understands where success rises from and that not everyone gets away. We take pride in that.

You Turned Out to Be a Shitty Friend, so It's Time to End Our Toxic Friendship

I loved our friendship, or what I thought our friendship was. For a long time I believed that you were the best friend anyone could ever have. I looked up to you and allowed you to be part of my world. I was blind and couldn’t see all your shades of darkness that clouded my judgment. Sadly for me, you turned out to be a shitty friend, so It’s time to end our toxic friendship.

For awhile I hesitated to end it. I think a lot of me was afraid of losing myself if I lost you. In those moments, I embraced everything about you and forgot that I was losing myself while loving you. I had loved you too long but in the end I grew tired of loving your toxic soul

I lost myself in the naive notion that everything you said was my truth and that your emotions were somehow more important than my own.

I became passive and you remained selfish.  Though at times I felt you were simply trying to make me a better person, I understand now that you were trying to mold me into someone I was not – someone I would never be.  Only a shitty friend can manipulate someone’s emotions in such a way.

It took a long time for me to realize how toxic you actually were.  I know other people could see how you changed me.  I never understood the toxicity that people saw in you, why they told me to stay away and break the chains.

It hurt me because I loved you so. I knew they just didn’t see the amazing person that I saw, they didn’t understand your soul like I did. I guess everyone saw that we had a toxic friendship but me.

So, today I give up loving you so I can start breathing again. I put an end to our toxic friendship.

I let it all go. I let go of the person you wanted me to be. I let go of the person I was around you. I let go of the unnecessary drama I had clung to out of fear. I let go of the shitty friend and the toxic friendship

I’m not sure that you will every truly understand what went wrong with us. The only thing I am completely certain of is this: I have never felt the relief of a greater burden I didn’t know I was carrying.

And so in this moment, I am trying very truly hard not to be cruel to you. It’s true, I loved you once but our toxic friendship always had an expiration date.

So here’s my final goodbye, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope you all the best, even if you hurt me.
