K-pop has taken the world by storm, quickly becoming one of the biggest genres in music. You’ve heard of groups like BTS and Black Pink, but over 50 groups debut each year, and that number is growing exponentially. It feels like there’s a new hit song every week, but K-pop is often written off as something just for teen girls, but it is so much more than that. (check out this reaction here) The popularity of Korean music has helped people learn about Korean culture and the Korean language. Do you need the perfect K-pop playlist for summer? Give these ten songs a listen!
Pink, glittery, and bright, you probably heard this one on the radio last year. Unfortunately, three out of four members left the group after releasing this hit, making it one of their last.
This song is on the sadder side, but it creates the perfect vibe for those lazy summer nights. The group is currently on their 4th world tour, playing hits from their newest albums, Freefall and Minisode 3: T
This song is less of a summer song and more of a chill song for when you’re feeling confident and relaxed. The group recently performed at Coachella, showcasing mesmerizing dance moves and stunning visuals to a large audience at the Sahara stage.
This is another abstract one, but it’s bright and playful, creating the perfect vibes for a warm summer day. Despite being the group’s first song, ‘ Magnetic’ reached 100 million streams on Spotify in less than a month, setting the record for “fastest K-pop debut song to reach 100 million streams.”
A bit of a throwback, Why So Lonely was one of the last songs Wonder Girls released before disbandment, making this hit both happy and sad for long-time fans.

Billie Eilish, a 19-year-old pop superstar, recently released a movie/documentary called The World’s a Little Blurry. This film documents her life starting from her first hit at age 14 and how her career only skyrocketed from there. She tackles topics like mental health, physical health, relationships, family, and so much more in the 2.5-hour special.
Not only do we see a sneak peek into her life, but the life of teenage stardom as a whole.
Billie was born in California and grew up in an intensely musical household. Both of her parents were musicians, as well as her brother, Finneas, who helps create her music. Her first song, Ocean Eyes, hit the radio in 2016 and the rest of her music soon followed. Since then, she produced a full album in 2019 called When We All Fall Asleep, Where do We Go?, which features hits like Bad Guy, xanny, and i love you. Her music is known around the world and she acts as a role model to fans everywhere.
What does stardom look like for her?
It’s not as glamorous as we think. In the documentary, we see the intense hours, rigorous training, and taxing tours. We see her grow up, get her driver’s license, watch her fall in love, go through a breakup, see how she got injured on tour… Just because she’s a musical sensation, doesn’t mean she hasn’t gone through the typical teenage things.
Coming from someone who is significantly older than her, her story is still incredibly inspiring.
I’ll admit, I even teared up during the movie. Why? We see stardom take a toll on such a young person. It’s sad, it’s frustrating, it’s infuriating, but, in the end, it’s encouraging. We also see how her family has affected who she is both as a person and as a musician. Within the first few minutes, Billie accredits her success to her family. With supportive parents and a creative brother, we see the positive energy she shares with her family.
Family has been an element of her success throughout her whole life and music career, and it shows the importance of a positive family dynamic.
We also see the physical issues that Billie has to face. Born with Tourette’s Syndrome, Billie shows her struggles with that in relation to her career. We see her go through a “tic attack” which is related to the stress and exhaustion that she faces.
Another element of Billie’s story is her relationship and breakup.
In the movie, we’re introduced to Billie’s now ex-boyfriend, Brandon Adams (stage name 7:AMP). Their budding relationship is shown through phone calls and meet-ups behind the scenes and, eventually, the couple separates due to a difference in what they wanted in the long run. Even though breakups are nothing new, it’s hard to see this happen to a young girl who is thrown in the middle of a very evasive lifestyle. It makes us hurt for her even more.
Another powerful thing we see in Billie’s movie is the physical toll that this lifestyle takes on her.
When touring, she goes through multiple injuries, especially torn ligaments in her leg from her contagious energy and dancing on stage. We see her go through physical therapy and braces and casts. But, despite all of that, Billie still brings her energy and wants to give her fans the best performance that she possibly can.
So, what’s next for her?
After multiple Grammy nominations and wins, Billie continues to make music for the pop world and it’s crazy to think that her career is really just getting started. Her new song, Therefore I Am, has hit the radios and is already known worldwide. I have no doubt that we’ll continue to be blown away by her incredible talent for making music and touching lives.

The 90’s was a helluva time for music. On the one hand, it was the golden age of pop. Bands like N*SYNC, The Backstreet Boys and T.L.C. proved to the world that if you rounded up a couple attractive friends, wrote a few ballads, and got genetically engineered by Disney, you too could be famous.
Then 90’s grunge bands like Nirvana, The Goo Goo Dolls, and Semisonic proved that those lonely kids in high school had something to say too. Then Blink 182 came flying in with their nostalgic chords and party-vibes and all of a sudden that guy with the mohawk was invited to the football kegger.
In the midst of our dreary haze of hormones and Bill Clinton, there was something for everyone.
Thing is, there’s also a lot we missed. In fact, a lot of the most popular songs of the decade have been completely misinterpreted or misunderstood for all these years.
Here are the 13 songs from the 90’s that you probably totally misinterpreted.
1. “Closing Time” by Semisonic
You thought it was about closing time at a bar.
It’s actually about the singer having a baby. Dan Wilson wrote this cryptic song about his daughter who was born 3 months premature and had to spend months in the hospital fighting for her life. It’s a heart wrenching story that makes the phrase “I know who I want to take me home” just a little more meaningful.
2. “One” by U2
You thought it was about love or marriage or something.
It’s actually about father and son angst. After his mom died when he was 14, Bono said he had a strained relationship with his father, and wrote the song about that emotional distance.
3. “Possession” by Sarah McLachlan
You thought it was about super passionate romance.
It’s actually about a stalker who sent McLachlan a series of obsessed letters. The fan then sued her for writing a song about it but the lawsuit was dropped after he committed suicide. Yikes.
4. “Heart Shaped Box” by Nirvana
You thought it was about Courtney Love. Or perhaps just Courtney Love’s vagina.
Music is a wonderful gift that we sometimes don’t deserve. It can bring people together and create incredible experiences shared with family and friends. If you’ve experienced a music festival before, you know how incredibly surreal the entire event can be. You also know there’s a lot that goes into making that weekend a success. So whether you’re about to party it up at Coachella or ACL grab a pen and write these helpful survival tips down. You’ll thank us later.
1. Plan your stops.
Music festivals are an absolute gift from the music Gods because you have the chance to see multiple amazing acts within one weekend! With that being said, it’s important to map out what performances you’ll be seeing throughout your festival experience. Most music festivals have several stages spread apart. You’ll need to know who you’re seeing in order to figure out where you’re going. By planning out the performances you want to catch, you can also plan on when to get some food, when to purchase another drink and when to take a bathroom break! Most music festivals have apps now that make it incredibly easy to map out the performances you want to see.
2. Read festival rules & guidelines.
There’s nothing worse than arriving at a themed party and not being dressed appropriately. To think, you could have avoided the embarrassment if you’d just read the actual invite. The same idea applies to music festivals. Each festival has its own set of rules and regulations. Some festivals have restrictions on the kind of food or beverages you can bring in. Others might limit the size of your bag. Regardless, it’s important to be aware of what is and isn’t allowed at the festival you are attending.
3. Wear comfortable shoes.
Think practical, not cute. This might seem like common sense, but if you aren’t prepared to stand, walk, run and jump in the shoes you’re wearing then they probably shouldn’t be worn in the first place. A LOT of walking, running, standing, jumping and more walking will be done when you’re at a music festival. There’s a really great chance that your shoes will be covered in dirt, scuff marks, scratches and spilt drinks. Ultimately, don’t wear shoes you’re too attached to.
4. Dress code is key.
We know you want to look cute and possibly catch Anthony Kiedis or Brandon Flowers eye, but don’t subject yourself to uncomfortable clothing all for the sake of looking cute for a couple of hours. Remember, it can get hot and you will get sweaty! If you are opting for a cute festival look, at least try to wear breathable fabrics. Remember you’ll be in a sea of crowds under the beaming sun. Maybe you should reconsider that full sequin outfit?
5. Stay hydrated.
Music festival season is typically during the warmer months of the year, so with that being said you definitely want to plan on staying hydrated with something other than overpriced beer and wine! Most venues will let you bring in recyclable water bottles or factor sealed water bottles. You can also always purchase water inside the venue, but it can be much cheaper to just bring your own water bottles and refill at the provided hydration stations and water fountains at the festival.
6. Refuel.
You work hard and you deserve to play hard! Nothing should get in the way of you jamming out to your favorite band while sipping on a cold beer, but you can’t go an entire weekend just living off alcohol (or you shouldn’t). Be sure to keep yourself fed. Drinking on an empty stomach can be incredibly dangerous. The good thing is most festivals have food trucks and vendors all festival goers can dine at. If you have a break in between performances, be sure to refuel with some water and food or snacks.
7. Check the weather.
Weather is unpredictable, but it doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared. It’s really important to check the weather before you head out to a music festival for several reasons. One being you’ll want to make sure you’ve dressed accordingly. For example, you’ll probably opt for some shorts and a crop top in 90-degree weather, but if it’s looking like it might rain you’ll opt for some old shoes you don’t care for or even a pair of rain boots. You can even pack an umbrella and/or wear some rain boots to avoid losing shoes to layers of mud if it does in fact rain. Additionally, rain might affect your commute and you’ll want to make sure you have a backup plan. Whatever the case may be, check the weather so you can prepare adequately.
8. Stay vigilant.
Never leave your stuff unattended, no matter how free-spirited and amazing the environment or atmosphere might be. Always keep your wallet and personal belongings in your bag or on you at all times. It only takes a second to lose your keys, wallet, cell phone or other personal items. If you’re with a group of friends, ask someone to watch your stuff, even if you’re only leaving for a quick minute. Experiencing theft is the quickest way to put a damper on your festival experience.
9. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen.
It can be easy to forget about sunscreen when you’re having the time of your life, but you’ll be doing yourself a favor when you don’t show up to work on Monday looking like a lobster. Sunscreen should be worn every day, and your music festival experience is no exception. Don’t underestimate those cloudy days either–you can still catch a really nasty burn during a less-than-sunny day. Be sure to reapply sunscreen to your face and all exposed body parts throughout the day. Also, did you know sunscreen can help fight wrinkles? Bet you’ll remember sunscreen next time!
10. Toiletries.
There’s a good chance that you will have to use the portable restrooms at some point. Thousands of people will also be using those same portable restrooms. While it isn’t the most glorious activity, it is part of the experience and you’ll want to be prepared for it. Be sure to pack wet wipes, hand sanitizer and your own supply of toilet paper. The supplies are pretty self-explanatory and incredibly useful.
11. Separation anxiety.
Music festivals are a great opportunity for friends and family to hang out and have fun, but it can also be a bit chaotic coordinating between so many people. Cell phone reception is also virtually non-existent while at a music festival, so be prepared. In the event, you and your group split up throughout the weekend set up a designated meeting place. So if you lose track of your friends or get separated from the group, don’t freak out. You prepared for this! If you plan on catching different acts, you can all plan to meet back up at this designated spot after the performances.
12. First-Aid supplies.
In the spirit of being prepared, put together a small first-aid kit that is easy to carry. You’ll want to pack band-aids, Advil, tissues and antihistamines. These will all come in handy. Bandaids are great for aiding blistered up feet and pounding headaches. Advil can also come in handy if you’re feeling aches and pains that accompany the music festival experience. The antihistamines can help alleviate sneezing, itchy watery eyes that occur due to the dust, dirt and other allergens in the air.
13. Handy gadgets.
Because you’ll be out and about for at least 10 hours, it might be a good idea to invest in a reliable portable cell phone charger. This way, you don’t have to worry about your phone being dead when it’s time to call an Uber or you’re having issues locating the group you came with.
14. Fanny pack it out.
The bright side is fanny packs are a lot more socially acceptable now. It might seem like a bit of a fashion risk, but it’s much easier to get around crowds with a small fanny pack as opposed to a larger, bulky backpack. If you don’t plan on bringing any spare clothes or large items then a fanny pack is exactly what you need to hold your ID, credit cards, cash and cell phone.
15. Don’t drink and drive.
So you’ve made it through the day and you’re ready to call it a night. If you’ve enjoyed a few drinks and your home, apartment or hotel aren’t walking distance then be sure to find an alternate mode of transportation. There are plenty of methods of transportation in most major cities such as Lyft, Uber, city buses and taxi cabs. If you could afford a $12 12 ounce beer, you can certainly afford a designated driver that keeps you and others safe.
Every music lover knows that anytime an artist covers another artist’s work things get a little controversial. There’s always going to be people who hate the new take on their favorite track and then there will be people who love the cover almost as much (if not more) than the original. There’s hardly ever any in between.

Mason Ramsey became an internet sensation in 2018 when a video of him yodeling Hank Williams’ “Lovesick Blues” at Walmart went viral. He skyrocketed to fame and stayed famous because he’s truly talented. Since then, he’s put out an EP, called Famous, and he just released a video for his cover of the Irving Berlin classic, “White Christmas.”
The video features young Ramsey crooning away on the stage of a theater that looks to be setting up for a Christmas play.
Other kids dance in front of the stage. Some of them are dressed as newsies. No explanation for the newsies other than that the whole vibe of the video is old-fashioned and quaint.
Mason is singing into an old-timey microphone, wearing a shirt with fringe and a pair of cowboy boots and looking fully in his element.
Mason definitely learned some cool microphone moves.
