Homeless Man Leaves Touching Sign Thanking Kind Strangers After Getting a Job

Most of us are so lucky that we’ll never know how hard it is to have to stand in the street and ask strangers for help. But there are so many people who have to do just that, for so many different reasons. They’ve fallen on hard times or lost their job or even their homes, and now they have to rely on the kindness of people they don’t even know.

Talia Schlanger, the host of “World Cafe” on NPR, shared a tweet about a man she’d see asking for help on the street who one day wasn’t at the spot where she usually saw him. She tweeted the circumstances: “For the past year, a very nice man has been standing on the bridge that’s on my way to work with a sign saying he was having a hard time and could use a hand. Today, this is what it read.” And she included a picture of a cardboard sign written in marker that said, “My last week out here I got a job thank you to everyone who has helped during this hard time.”

How nice is it that the man left a thank you note? The sign served not only as a way to show appreciation but also as an explanation to anyone who might have gotten used to seeing him and possibly chatting with him and would be worried that he just suddenly disappeared.

Schlanger followed up the tweet with more information. She wrote that he got hired by a man in New Jersey to build cabinets and was given a place to stay during the job by the same man.

People on Twitter responded to Schlanger’s tweet because they were so moved.

One person asked if she knew the name of the company that hired him, saying they deserved extra customers.

Schlanger’s post was retweeted by the Kale Salad account, and it was also posted on their Instagram, where it received almost 250,000 likes.

And a whole lot of comments!

It’s nice to see some good news to counter all the bad.

22 Pictures That’ll Make The World Suck Less For A Few Minutes, I Swear

If you haven’t noticed, everything is terrible. The polar bears are emaciated, bees are dying at an alarming rate, and oh yeah, the President might put us in a nuclear Armageddon at any moment. This world is doomed.

Before you reach for a brown paper bag to hyperventilate into, just take a moment to look at these photos and remind yourself that life isn’t so bad, after all. Continue reading 22 Pictures That’ll Make The World Suck Less For A Few Minutes, I Swear

Woman Gets The Sweetest Revenge On Co-Worker Who Told Everyone To Ignore Her Birthday

Birthdays are important to a lot of people, as they should be. They should be celebrated and there should be cupcakes and everyone should be nice to you on your birthday.

Unfortunately, that’s not always how the real world works. Like this woman who posted on Imgur about a petty co-worker who did something really almost unforgivably mean to her on her birthday.

The woman started her story by explaining how her one female co-worker always planned fun birthday parties and gifts for the staff.

Imgur

But the day before her birthday, the woman posting (who is on Imgur as AppleDarling) said that a co-worker wished her a happy birthday since he thought she wasn’t coming in the following day. And why did he think that? Oh, just because the female co-worker told everyone that AppleDarling wasn’t coming in and that they didn’t need to do anything for her birthday.

People on Imgur weighed in with advice, telling her she should just bring her own cake or cupcakes and “be better than” the catty co-worker who tried to ruin her birthday.

So AppleDarling’s day was almost done and still nobody had done anything for her birthday. So she took it upon herself to call a friend to bring in some cupcakes for her.

Imgur

She later said she wasn’t sure why she got cupcakes for herself, but she knew she was “too old for drama,” and she even gave one to the mean female co-worker.

Imgur

But that wasn’t the end of her story. It turns out, some people in another department heard about what had happened to this poor woman and decided to give her some belated birthday attention.

And as for the mean co-worker, it seemed that she came around to the side of niceness. She even brought AppleDarling some hot chocolate and “pepermint shnoops.” (Could she mean peppermint Schnapps? We’ll never know.)

That Viral Glitter Bomb Video Turns Out To Be Staged Because 2018 Ruins Everything

Hey, you know that awesome viral video where the ex-Nasa engineer designs and sends into the world the amazing glitter bomb package meant to get revenge on package thieves? Yeah, it turns out that’s not exactly real.

I was going to go into a rant about how we can’t seem to have just one good, nice thing this year, but then I remembered that President Obama did put on a Santa hat and bring gifts to a children’s hospital this week, so okay, we apparently can have ONE nice thing. But just the one.

So the video. In case you actually did miss it, what happened was after supposedly having a package stolen from his front door, Mark Rober, an ex-Nasa engineer and YouTuber, created a fake package in order to deter/get revenge on anyone else who decided to steal his mail.

Because of his background in engineering, Rober designed an incredibly complex box that, when opened, not only released a pound of glitter into the immediate area via centrifugal force, but also filmed the person opening it using four iPhones set up in the box. Oh, and there was a can of fart spray, too.

The video went beyond viral; it now has over 48 million views on YouTube. And that led, of course, to people at home really studying and analyzing the video. And here’s where the story gets very detailed.

Imgur via BuzzFeed

The viewers noticed interesting things, like the fact that one of the porch package robbers lived next door to Rober’s friend, Cici, and that the car used in one of the supposed heists was parked in front of Cici’s house in Pittsburg, CA. The man who determined this, Peter Logan, emailed BuzzFeed News with his findings and also posted them on Imgur, where more people got in on the internet detective game.

People on Twitter and Reddit started to point out what they saw as strange stuff about the video, like that the police were never involved, or how calm the “thieves” were given that they’d just supposedly been sprayed with tons of glitter and the foul-smelling farts.

When people began to contact Rober with questions about the video, the video suddenly got edited: parts of the video were blurred and some were edited out.

Twitter

Rober tweeted on Thursday that he’d removed about one and a half minutes of the video after being “presented with information that caused [him] to doubt the veracity of 2 of the 5 reactions in the video.”

He explained that he’d offered financial compensation to the people he reached out to because they were taking the time to put the package out. So in two of the supposed theft cases, the “thieves” actually knew the person putting out the box and were in on it.

Rober apologized for potentially misleading viewers and wrote that he should have “done more to verify” the content. He still maintained that the other reactions to the exploding glitter package were real.

He wrote,

“This is my first ever video with some kind of ‘prank’ and like I mentioned in the video it’s pretty removed from my comfort zone and I should have done more. I’m especially gutted because so much thought, time, money and effort went into building the device and I hope this doesn’t just taint the entire effort as ‘fake.’”

People were understandably disappointed to find out the video wasn’t entirely legitimate.

Other people tweeted that they’d known it was fake all along.

Somebody else thought the “acting” gave it away.

But a lot of people still appreciated the video and the fake package for the technical marvel it was.

I’d happily still put that package out on my steps and just wait for some poor fool to come along and grab it.

Demanding Mom Loses It When Swimming Instructor Won’t Give Her Son Lessons

Some people think they deserve it all and shouldn’t have to pay for any of it. Sure, money is tight for almost everyone (not that 1 percent, though!) and you can’t blame a person for haggling a bit, but some people really have all the nerve.

And even when something is free, they demand all kinds of special considerations, because clearly, their needs are more important than anyone else’s.

Like this ultra-demanding mother who demanded that a swim instructor give her son free private lessons and then got abusive when the instructor wouldn’t do it. Screenshots of the entire text conversation were posted on Reddit, where they’re getting a lot of attention due to the inanity of the situation.

It begins with the mom reaching out to a swim instructor and asking if her son could get lessons.

Reddit

The swim instructor didn’t answer the mom in what she thought was a quick enough manner, so the mom texted repeatedly in the most obnoxious fashion.

Reddit

So, to be clear, this person is offering to teach kids to swim for free, but that’s not good enough for the mom, who wants to be able to choose the time and wants her son to get a private lesson. For free. Did we mention free?

Reddit

Next, the mom comes up with the incorrect idea that somehow her son deserves private lessons because he’s missed out on the lessons the instructor already gave the kids. What the??

Reddit

The woman refused to take no for an answer. The instructor already explained that she couldn’t teach at one because she’d be at work.

And then the instructor got called a “lousy teacher” and a “selfish b*tch” because she wouldn’t bend to this mother’s will.

Reddit

But the mom wasn’t done yet. She went on to call the instructor a “nasty horrible person.”

 Reddit

And now we can see that she’s gone off the deep end, so to speak. How does she know anything about this person who is just being nice by offering free swimming lessons to kids?

Reddit

So the mom wants the teacher to…give her money? What is wrong with some people?

This Doctor Hung A Perfect Sign Explaining Why He Will No Longer Treat Unvaccinated Children

Vaccines are such a hot button issue with parents these days. Some parents, generally known as anti-vaxxers, choose to forgo vaccinations for potentially deadly diseases because they worry about what they see as possible side effects for their children.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) both recommend that parents get their kids vaccinated. There have been articles galore about the importance of vaccinating your children. There have been countless threads on Twitter (where the issue is the subject of quite a lot of debates). But some parents are still against it.

Parents can choose not to vaccinate their children, sure, but doctors can also make policies of not treating kids who are not vaccinated. This sign, hung in a doctor’s office, got a lot of attention after being posted on Reddit.

Reddit

The sign reads,

Our office will no longer be seeing patients that do not vaccinate their children. We will vaccinate those who would like to begin the process, however failure to comply with this policy will result in discharge after January 1, 2019. We can provide a medical release when a new physician has been found. Due to the overwhelmingly thorough research of science based findings there is a plethora of evidence supporting the positive impact vaccines have on children. As per Dr. Azmeh’s professional advice, along with the CDC and WHO (World Health Organization), we strongly discourage any parent from withholding vaccines that will undoubtedly help their children. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please feel free to ask a staff member.

Many commenters applauded the doctor’s policy.

Parents, please vaccinate your kids. If not for their own safety, then for the safety of people with compromised immune systems who can’t get vaccinated themselves.
