Carter was not the hunky bad boy doctor. He was more of an emotional being. He loved hard and worked harder for his patients. This is one of those characters on ER  that we get to watch grow up and transform into one of the most amazing men of the show. This is a doctor that you will fall in love with. He makes the whole show. Here are twenty times we fell hard for Carter on E.R.

1. When we first meet him. He is this awkward young doctor to be. He is nervous and cannot hold his lunch when a major case comes into the hospital. You can see the emotion on his face when he is dealing with the patients.
2. When he messes up. When you see the disappointment on his face because he has messed something simple up for Benton you cannot help but want to hug him and tell him that it is all going to be okay.
3. His compassion: From the very beginning he shows this sense of compassion to people. This makes you know that he will be a good doctor because he takes the time to listen to the patients.
4. When he switches from surgery to ER: From the beginning I was like (ugh) he should not be in surgery! He is too kind and caring for that. Plus he got along way better with the people of the ER I was happy when he finally made the move!
5. The way he loved Abby: Abby had a bunch of family drama and although you could tell that he would get frustrated by the fact that it always came first, or that she would push him away because of it. You could still see the love that he had for her.
6. His friendship with Chen: Now, when things first started with these two, they were rivals competing for a spot in the Surgical wing of the hospital. However, we watch as Chen goes through a personal journey of having a baby and giving that baby up for adoption. Carter stood right by her side through the whole thing. Hes pretty great!
7. His passion for helping those less fortunate: Carol Hathaway, a nurse in the ER put forth an effort for a free clinic run out of the ER. Carter got his family involved to help fund the clinic. We see him be Santa and pass out gifts to kiddos who dont have a lot. We see him put his career on the line to help his patients.
8. Working around the world: Yes, he did many great things when he was working in the ER, however, he decided that he needed to go away and help those who did not have access to medical care in other countries. He did this with a fellow doctor Kovac. They head to the Kongo to help and almost get killed.
9. Monkey Pox: So the ER had an outbreak and Carter was the one who dealt with the crisis. This was one of the times that we saw his stern side. When it mattered, he had a take charge attitude.
10. When he was stabbed: He and a fellow Med student was stabbed by a mentally ill patient. Carter survived, but Lucy did not. The pain from this caused him to spiral down to a deep depression and he harbored a lot of guilt for the way that he treated her. This was a hard one to watch but it made him seem more human, in a way.
11. Recovering from Addiction: After he was stabbed the pain turned into addiction. We watched on as those who loved Cater fought to get him help. We watched as he broke down because he did not know what else in life to do.
12. When he went back to Africa: There was false news that Kovac was killed while he was working in the Kongo. He goes to save Kovac.
13. When Abby breaks up with Carter: He gets a letter from Abby while he is in the Kongo. This sparks a new relationship with Kem someone he meet while working in Africa.
14. His Pregnant wife: When he finds out Kem is pregnant he brings her back to Chicago. Watching him care for her was something to make every lady swoon.
15. Losing his Baby: We watched on as Carter and Kem find out that their baby had no heart beat. We went through the story with them as Cater cares for em during labor and delivery. Then we watched him break down in the hallway. This very raw pain changes the way that we see him yet again.
16. Saying goodbye to the baby: He worries about Kem as she will not look at or hold their baby. She will not say good bye because she is consumed with so much grief over the loss. When he finally comes back in after composing himself he convinces her to hold and say goodbye to their Son. He holds on to her and consuls her as she does.
17. His reading of Dr Greens Letter: Dr. Green was always his mentor. When he went away because he was dying of cancer, Green sent a letter to his pals at county. Carter read it aloud, and you can hear the emotion in his voice as he reads that Dr. Green has passed on. However, you can feel the torch being passed on to Carter. He is now the one that everyone will look to, to set the tone. And he is now the leader of the pack. So he takes this role on with such grace.
18. His relationship with Susan: A fellow doctor. You could tell from the beginning that they had a crush on each other. However, they never acted upon it. That is until Susan came back to Chicago. Her and Carter finally decided to see if they could give it a shot. However, things would not work out for them. Although the relationship did not last long. You could see that he does love with all of his heart.
19. When he comes back: In the last season Carter makes his return. It is revealed that he comes back to get put on the US organ transplant list. He comes back to his old stomping ground to work. He also confides in his old mentor Dr. Benton that he and Kem are having a rough patch. Again his pain just makes you wanna hug him and tell him it will all be okay.
20. The End: In the end we see Dr. Greens daughter comes to tour where her dad worked. It is relived that she will be a part of County as a medical student. Carter takes her around the hospital and you can just see that he will be her mentor the same way that her father was for him. It is the most amazing full circle moment of the show.
