Cringe alert.
So, the big booing incident happened during Justin Bieber’s surprise appearance at “Fashion Rocks” – a concert special in NYC. All he had to do was introduce a performance. Not sure whose idea it was for him to get mostly naked. But, within a few seconds of being on stage, he stripped down to boxer briefs only to promote the Calvin Klein brand. You can hear the boos almost immediately. Check it out.
Now, of course, the idea behind the decision was that this event was blending fashion and music. There were supermodels walking around in designer clothes during performances – which was all well and good. But, almost as soon as Bieber got on stage, he delivered his line, “So, uh, I actually don’t feel comfortable unless I’m in my Calvin’s so…is that cool?”
Anddddd, cue the booing.
Isn’t it interesting how public perception can so powerfully affect an audience’s reaction to a hot man stripping down? Remember Taylor Lautner in Twilight? Nobody was booing when Taylor took his shirt off. He actually had some appearances after the movie where he stripped down, kind of making fun of himself, and we ate it up. Why? Because he’s a stand-up guy.
Not only has Bieber made headlines for getting in fights, getting arrested, and appearing in court, he’s also got this pretty major reputation of being a jerk with an inflated ego. I think that if Justin Bieber would just drop the cocky routine that has been part of his image since day one, it would do him a lot of good.
