Some Advice About Motherhood For The New Mom

And that’s the kicker: motherhood doesn’t make sense. It’s full of weird emotions and contradictions and sometimes you feel like you’re doing nothing right and everything you thought you knew suddenly turns out to be wrong and you’re tired all the time and little things like your child throwing all of your pens in the toilet make you want to scream WHY CHILD, WHY IS NOTHING SACRED–

But then they smile at you and suddenly your heart is so full of love it’s fit to burst and you forget all about pens in the toilet and remember why you had wanted kids in the first place.

Motherhood is crazy. Children are crazy. A lot of the time you’re going to wonder what you got yourself into and sometimes, the whole idea of being responsible for another human being can be a little overwhelming. So my advice to you?

Don’t take yourself too seriously. Don’t take motherhood too seriously. Have fun and enjoy the little things; laugh, damn it! And if you need to cry, do it, because it helps.

And at the end of the day, when your bundle of joy is in bed and the house is quiet for once, don’t do those dishes or fold that laundry. Those things can wait. Sit down, turn on Netflix, have a glass of wine or five. Because you deserve it.
