Negative Effects of Technology on Parenting

Poor Social Skills

Today’s kids spend most of their time on social media and instant messaging apps that negatively influence their skills to socialize with people around. They feel more comfortable to text someone than negotiating with someone face-to-face. They may find it hard to mix up with society and this can create horrible impacts on their lives, moods and career in the long run. Poor social skills can also trigger depression and low self-esteem which in severe cases can induce suicidal behavior in sensitive people. Meanwhile, the parents who are more focused on their jobs could not provide enough support to their kids in boosting self-confidence and developing social skills.

Imbalanced Work Life

While technology has created more opportunities for the employers and businessman, it has also made it complex to balance work and life. After giving nine hours to your work, your employer intrudes your free time. The availability of mobile phones, computers and the internet at home make employers engage to their work even after working hours. This leaves parents with short or no time to spend with their kids, plan weekends and strengthen their bonds.
