Affirmative action was designed to promote equal opportunity employment and prevent discrimination based on gender, race, color or nationality. In theory, it works to prevent someone NOT getting a position based on any of these mentioned. It seems that sometimes, it works in the opposite direction and someone who may not be fully qualified get the job BECAUSE of gender, race, color or nationality.
In the wake of the resignation of the Director of the Secret Service, Julia Pierson, we are once again left to scratching our heads and wondering how on earth this person was chosen for the job. Our nation has painted itself into a politically correct corner. When you’re in that kind of position, you aren’t in any position to lead. When it becomes more important for an administration to prove its “diversity” and not its valor, intelligence and strength we leave ourselves open for attack, both foreign and domestic. In choosing to paint a picture that celebrates all walks of life rather than just getting the best person for the job, Obama has once again has compromised the American people. If you think that her professional shortcomings stop at just protecting Obama, I’m afraid you are sorely mistaken. It may not manifest itself right away, but there is always more to these stories. The ripple effect could go on for years.
After less than two years, Julia Pierson has resigned from her post as the first female Director of the Secret Service. As well she should. The undercurrent calling for her resignation became louder and more insistent, most specifically from Democrats. Senator Chuck Schumer of New York promised to hold a conference on Wednesday demanding her resignation. He didn’t need to wait that long. Elijah Cummings called for her resignation as well. He said, “I think this lady has got to go.” He referred to her as “this lady” bringing to the forefront the question, “Is this how she got the job?”
When he appointed her in March of 2013, Obama said, “Julia is eminently qualified to lead the agency that not only safeguards Americans at major evens and secures our financial system, but also protects our leaders and our first families, including my own.”
What does he think now?
The story broke last week that the security breach of September 19th at the White House went further than had been originally revealed. (This is another concern. What else are they hiding?) The truth was that Omar Gonzales, an Iraqi war veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, was able to scale the fence at The White House, get into the building and all the way to East Room. He was subdued at that point, but not before he was able to overcome the female agent that was to protect this section of the White House. This agent isn’t even the female in question about being the right man for the job. He was, after all, wielding a knife so it’s possible that he could have overtaken a man as well. Not likely, but possible.
The worst of the story combines itself with another disturbing event here on American soil, the Ebola Pandemic. Three days before the incident at the White House, Obama was in Atlanta meeting with the CDC. Secret Service allowed a security contractor into the elevator despite his unprofessional behavior, taking pictures and acting strangely. It wasn’t until he was fired on the spot and asked to hand over his weapon that Secret Service realized they had allowed him to ride ARMED in the elevator with the president. This information was omitted in her report to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Did she think that no one would find out?
Throughout her brief tenure, it appeared she didn’t understand the weight of this job, or the importance of doing it well. She is quoted after complaining about the level of security required at the US- Africa’s Summit Meeting this past summer that, “We need to be more like Disney World. We need to be more friendly and inviting.” I’ve been to Disney World. Even there, they search your bags for weapons and they never send out a superstar (like Mickey Mouse) without a bodyguard.
Obama has always been about damage control. He has to do it a lot. When he can’t blame George W. Bush he goes for a PC kind of offense. This is precisely what landed Pierson the position in the first place. After the scandal in 2012 of Secret Service cavorting with prostitutes and the consequent resignation of then director Mark Sullivan in February 2013, who better for the job than a woman? After all, SHE won’t put up with prostitutes and she’ll be just another check off on his list of “Humans in Various Forms to Promote to Big Jobs To Make Me Look Evolved and Accepting.”
Obama has proven time and again that he doesn’t listen to his advisors, no matter what their credence may be. (Case in point, ISIS.) I’m sure he felt appointing Pierson would smooth over feathers all the way around. Only the problem is, she wasn’t the right person for the job. Her complete underestimation of the need for security should put all of us on alert. Where else have there been cuts that we don’t know about yet? Where have we been rendered weak where we should be stronger? How can this be Bush’s fault?
As the Obama administration continues to spiral into its death spin we need to remember that these are elected officials. They have been sworn to protect not only The Constitution of the United States, but us as well. It’s not happening.
