4 Ways To Use Coconut Oil In More Than Just Your Food

I’m sure you, like everyone else on the Internet, have heard plenty of sensational claims regarding the benefits of incorporating coconut oil in your cooking, but have you had the pleasure of taking coconut oil a step further? It might sound a little farfetched, but coconut oil is way more than just a healthy frying agent.

If you’re still unconvinced, why not try these four uses for coconut oil outside the kitchen? You have nothing to lose and excellent hygiene to gain.

1. Skin Moisturizer

If your face is starting to feel a little dry from the winter air and cold wind front, consider adding coconut oil to your moisturizing regimen. It’s as simple as applying the oil directly to your face for a little extra moisture, or using it as a makeup removing mask. Just add a liberal amount of oil to your face and let sit for twenty minutes. Wash off, and gently remove the oil with a warm, damp cloth.

2. Oil Pulling

I’ve already touted the benefits of oil pulling for whiter teeth in several of my articles, but I honestly can’t stress it enough. Although you can use any kind of cooking oil for oil pulling, coconut oil is by far the most tolerable taste-wise. Use two teaspoons of solid, cold-pressed coconut oil and swish between your teeth for at least 20 minutes.

3. Hair Conditioner

Noticing a few extra split ends this winter, or an obvious lack of luster? Try a coconut oil mask to brighten up your dull locks. Before showering, add a thick layer of coconut oil to your hair, and let sit for at least an hour. To heighten the process, cover your hair in a towel and use your blow dryer to warm the oil. Coconut oil works best when it’s warm, and heat will help the oil to penetrate your follicles. Follow the mask with a thorough rinse and shampoo, taking special care to make sure all the oil is washed out.

4. Beard or Eyebrow Serum

Envious of Cara Delevingne’s brow game? Now you can have enviably manicured eyebrows, too! Maintain your natural brows with a coconut oil serum, applied twice daily. The oil will keep your brows in line in much the same way as an eyebrow setting gel, and the moisturizing effects will help to promote growth. Additionally, if you’re a guy who prefers a thick beard, coconut oil can help to keep your facial hair well-conditioned and presentable.
