9 Little Things About Life You Don’t Realize Until Your 20’s

Life constantly puts us through a series of hurdles and no one comes out of it alive. When we’re young, we go through it blindly. But now that we’ve reached our twenties, we’re sort of figuring this whole “life” thing out.

1. First impressions can be deceiving.

We’ve learned not to get charmed too easily. Someone who says just the right words and does just the right things has other tricks up their sleeve. Their actions have probably been rehearsed.

2. Normal people are boring. The weird ones make life worth living.

Going to school and being young was so much about fitting in. But now, the weirder and the less we fit in and are more different, the better.

3. Everyone just fakes it ‘til they make it.

We thought this whole “having your sh*t together thing would come” naturally by now. But we’re looking around and noticing that no one’s really got their sh*t together – everyone’s just fakin’ it until they’re makin’ it.

4. What we used to think of as “old” no longer seems old.

We used to look at people in their twenties and thought they lived in a different world; that they were practically ancient. But now that we’re in our twenties, we realize everyone’s still as lost as before.

5. Our parents were young once, too.

As we grow, we realize that our parents weren’t just born parents. We think about the people they used to be and wish we could meet their past versions.

6. We’re all responsible for ourselves.

When we were little, we used to think food just appeared on the table. And it did… until we moved out and suddenly had to fend for ourselves.

7. Our BFF isn’t just the person we  have the most fun with – it’s the one who supports us more than everyone else in the crowd.

When we’re young we keep people around because we have fun. But now that we’re becoming more and more of a “real person,” we know that the best friends are the ones who’ll be there for us through anything.

8. We can’t have light without darkness.

There’s no such thing as a constant high. There’s no such thing as real happiness without real sadness. And we need both in healthy doses to know what it’s like to be truly alive.

9. We know better than to blame ourselves for our pain.

Life is about plunging into the unknown. What’s at the bottom can either leave us feeling good, or it can wound us. We don’t blame ourselves for our wounds – they’re there for a reason and they will heal.
