The world can be an extremely cruel place. Most of the people don’t deserve the bad hands they’re dealt.
And I hate that I have to group you in with that bunch because you’re so smart and strong — and you didn’t deserve any of the bad things that have happened to you throughout your life.
Our society is classist, racist, sexist and really any other -ist you can come up with. And you’ve dealt with it all with such grace.
Your resilience is incredibly inspiring. I am truly in awe of how far you’ve come.
Between losing everything, putting off college to take care of your family and moving from house to house, you’re the biggest fighter I know.
But I know your experiences have left you hardened and untrusting of the world. And I understand that completely. But please use this time, instead of being (entirely) critical, to be constructive and make this world a better place.
Also, please know you have me. F*ck the teachers who never listened. F*ck the universities that didn’t give you proper scholarships. F*ck our society, which allows the rich to get ahead and the poor to struggle silently.
But you’ve never been silent. You’ve been the most outspoken person on these issues.
That time you stood up to the school administration when your friends of color were struggling in our all-white school, or the time your mom was persecuted at her job — you took charge and made sure the people oppressing your loved ones were put in their place.
You’re a natural leader, and one day you will end the suffering for so many other Americans.
In the meantime, though, you’ve got your family and friends by your side. Because we love you so much.
You’re an incredible person. You’re passionate and caring. You’re understanding and rational (but you also have the ability to see through people’s bullsh*t, which I love). These hardships have strengthened your character and everything you believe in. And I respect the hell out of you.
Take your experiences and create something incredible out of them that will inspire even more people. You’re not alone. I salute you.
Your awe-struck BFF
