10 Struggles of Going Out When You Don't Look 21

Going out in your early 20’s is a hassle enough. I should know, I’m about to turn 23. Whether you’ve just turned 21 or you’re close to 30, it never gets easier. Especially for girls. Girls who look like they just got their drivers license, I might add. There are so many possibilities to your night and us ‘baby faces’ have to deal with the bouncer right away…our night basically, goes downhill after that.

Here’s how the night usually ends up going:

1. We get carded at the door. More than once.

Coming from a baby face herself, I usually bring two forms of ID. My license and state ID. Hell, I still get nervous walking up to the door as if I’m carrying a fake ID on me. Proceeding to show the bouncer my form of ID, he usually brings

2. Most of the time, once we’re inside, everyone stares at you KNOWING they just let an underager in.

Once inside, especially walking up to the bar is tough. You have to push your way through but yet everyone around you is questioning why you’re not at a 18 and up bar instead. Or the fact that you’re even daring to go near the bar with your “fake”.

3. Sometimes, they even card us at the bar for a THIRD time.

Ordering and decding a drink is a process… but when they have to ask you for your ID a third time behind the bar.

Then you’re debating getting a double so it can hit you faster and show people you belong with everyone your own age.

4. After knowing you’re done with all the inspections, you’re finally able to get a drink.

Don’t get excited just yet, I’m sure some sort of comment or incident will happen soon.

5. You see so many cute guys, possible prospects but yet why aren’t they approaching you?

OH, that’s right. Because I’m sure they don’t want to look like a child molestor or pedophile. I’m not sure what guy does for that matter.

6. Then the guys that do approach you, want to because they think you ARE young.

No sir, I’m not 16 or 18. So, please…walk away. NOW. I’m trying to get guys my OWN age.

7. Let’s say you’re lucky and guy does approach you.

I just graduated college yet I’m sure the first thing that is going through a guys mind while talking to me is, “So where do you go to school?”

Excuse me…I graduated already. Thank you very much.

8. You might get asked to leave too early in the night.

Let’s say you’ve had a lot to drink. You start dancing, having fun, and dancing some more. Maybe a little off balance. Then the bouncer comes up to you because he thinks you’re underage and doesn’t know how to deal with her alcohol. There goes the night.

9. You have to apologize to your girlfriends for the night ending early.

Sorry girls, I guess you have to hang out with friends that LOOK your own age.

10. The next time you go out, guess what? The cycle continues.

Everyone thinks it’s great to get carded all the time. “You’re going to love it when you’re older!” Maybe I will. Maybe I won’t.

As of right now, it doesn’t seem like we’re going to get much older than 16.
