16 Powerful Thoughts From the 'Women of the Year' You Need to Hear

Glamour really picked a wonderful group of women to represent the 'Women of the Year' this year and of course included a special award to Bono as the first male of the year.

They all had wonderful things to say about how to empower women but these are definitely some of the highlights.

1. “Don’t let your body insecurities hold you back from doing anything that you want to do.”-Ashley Graham

2. “I hope they (women) look in the mirror and say, ‘I am beautiful'. “When you do that, it’s a whole other ball game—you start to understand that your words have power.” -Ashley Graham

3. “Be your own woman. Be your own kind of role model. And remember that the women around you are women you can lift up. You can change their lives.”-Ashley Graham

4. “Confidence doesn’t happen overnight, It’s not something you wake up and boom, you feel good about yourself. It’s a process. It’s something that you have to realize that everyone is going through and you can’t compare it to your friend’s process because you’re going to be different.”-Zendaya

5. “You have to focus on what makes you happy and make decisions in your career, in your life, that make you happy.”-Zendaya

6. “Embrace every moment because everything goes by so quickly.” -Simone Biles

7. “Learn how to not apologize for the space you take up in the world” -Gabourey Sidibe

8. “Before you say I love you, you have to say I.”-Mindy Kaling

9. “I wish that someone [had told me] at 25 that you’re going to feel really strong, then you’re going to feel really insecure….You’re going to think you know everything and then know nothing. That’s normal.”  -Maria Shriver

10. "More women in this country want and demand the right to choose than those who don’t. More want those rights protected," she said. “When more women want the right to control our bodies, we are the wall….Women have the skills, the power, and the passion to protect each other.”-Lena Dunham

11. "Don't be afraid to demand what you need to do your job well."-Christine Lagarde

12. "If you think that you’re going to feel miserable in any particular environment, don’t put up with it—just run. They don’t deserve you." -Christine Lagarde

13. “There are limits put on women, but why should there be?” -Gwen Stefani

14. “Ask for what you want, because asking doesn’t guarantee that you will get it, but not asking guarantees that you won’t get it.” -Cindi Leive

And of course, we cannot forget Bono who accepted Glamour's first Male of the Year award as well.

15. "2016 might be the year I stop believing north stars are always visible, even through a layer of fog. This year, the north star looked like a neon sign, fizzing and crackling,'hate for hire,' 'girls for rent,' 'women need not apply,'" he said."I say to the president-elect, look across to women. Make equality a priority. It is the only way forward. The train is leaving the station, be on it or be under it." -Bono

16. When asked what advice he had for young women he simply stated: “Take no shit.” -Bono

I am an avid lover of football, baseball, soccer, horror movies, selfies and napping. At a young age I loved reading and writing stories and connecting with people and from that sparked my endless rambling on about anything I can talk to others about. Writing is a huge passion of mine, it can bring so many different cultures and backgrounds together. If my writing reaches out to just one person and makes them feel better about themselves or the situation they are going through then it's worth every moment of vulnerability and putting yourself out there. Everyone struggles whether they vocalize it or internalize and sometimes you just need someone to relate to, or better yet someone to tell you that it's okay and things have to always get better. So just think of me as that friend who always has an open ear and attempts to help you make sense of it all.
