26 Signs You Have Peter Pan Syndrome

In modern psychology, a new stage of life is rising, called young adult. Many of us are familiar with this terminology from the genre of books that appeal to both teenagers and adults. In the context of our millennial generation, young adult means we identify with both the youth population and the adult population, but don't identify completely with either. Britney Spears put it perfectly when she sang, "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman… I'm in between."

I suspect in a couple of years there will be support groups for this kind of thing, but for now we're the age group that has the most fun. We have legal power, but have retained our sense of YOLO.

If you've been suspecting you were one of us, here's how to know:

  1. You still want to be a rockstar, seriously.
  2. Your bucket list is out of hand. It looks more like a college yolo to do list.
  3. You realize that you're the responsible adult,  but the concept is so unnerving you call another adult.
  4. You have just as much pizza nights and parties as you did in college.
  5. Reading Harry Potter beats reading the Pulitzer winner any day.
  6. You want to go to Disneyland… without kids.
  7. You still listen to pop music.
  8. Your clothes actually keep up with the trends.
  9. Video games after work doesn't faze you.
  10. Time slips through your fingers. You might be late to a get-together, but you will always be available for chat, texts, and email.
  11. You feel uncomfortable when people call you sir or ma'am.
  12. You get competitive playing monopoly with 10 year olds.
  13. You've had ice cream for breakfast too many times.
  14. April fools is your holiday.
  15. Swinging on the swing at the park has been a temptation one too many times.
  16. You buy more snacks than groceries.
  17. You still have your skateboard ready to go.
  18. G and PG-rated movies are awesome.
  19. You eat sugar like you breathe air.
  20. You call in sick for work, even when you're not.
  21. You still occasionally shop at stores you've been going since high school. Abercrombie has the best jeans, seriously.
  22. Roadtrips and travels don't need a reason and you've done this a few times already.
  23. And no one needs a reason to breakout into dance either.
  24. Whenever there are rules, you have the unnerving urge to break them.
  25. The trouble with finding a partner is that they don't dream as much as you. A whole life is out there! Take it!
  26. When talking about future goals, you've started the sentence with, "When I grow up…"
Peter Pan had such great adventures and we can too! Don't settle for anything less than a great life. Here's to never growing up!
