High school was definitely a crucial part of our lives growing up, but all those little life-ruining and few completely awesome moments faded as soon as we graduated and moved on to college life.

Here’s a little flash-back and a reminder of just how little those experiences mean in the long run.

1. #SquadGoals.

While it may have seemed totally cool to walk down the hallway in a Mean Girls-esque kind of way, the probability of staying in that clique once you emerge out of your teenage cocoon and butterfly into post-grad life (aka your freshman year of college) is slim to none.

2. Getting the Crown.

Yes, being crowned the Prom Queen did seem absolutely amazing. The tiara, although shaped out of cheap plastic and cubic zirconium, was gleaming. The DJ was playing your jam, and the cutest boy in school was standing right beside you with his Zac Efron melt-your-face-off smile.

But in all honesty, that silly crown will find itself in a trash bin somewhere within the next few years while you’re trying to pack your off-to-college boxes. Oh, and the guy? Well, he’ll be living with his mother and spending Saturday nights delivering pizza in your hometown.

3. The SAT.

At the time, studying for the SAT took hours, maybe even days of your time. You spent morning and night chewing holes into your pencil while getting absolutely nothing done just to sit in a freezing florescent room for four hours.

Then, every week following the test you over-stressed about the scores only to find out that your first-choice school couldn’t care less whether you took the test or not.

4. Meeting your Soulmate.

Holding hands in the hallway, meeting in between the lockers for a quick kiss before class, and sitting together at lunch was definitely what life was about in high school. And years down the road you’re still going to remember Brian or Brad or whatever his name was, but the chance of still being together after graduation is unlikely.

While some high school sweethearts do in fact move in together, attend the same college, and have beautiful little babies, you’ll find that getting older molds you into a different person, and you’re probably not going to think of whatshisname the same way you did in your tween years.

5. Having Brand Name Clothes.

In high school your shopping list (if you had a cool mom, that is) included the top names in teen clothing, like Aeropostale sweat shirts, handbags from Claire’s Boutique, and sneakers by DC. As you get older your clothing-game completely morphs into something that sounds like Zara, J. Crew, and Banana Republic.
