Cruising has always been a popular form of holidaying, but it’s often considered a holiday choice for older generations, rather than younger people or families. However, in recent years more and more people of all generations have been choosing to take a cruise, with over 1.5m British people opting for an international cruise holiday last year alone.
So why has cruising grown in popularity in recent years? What does this type of holiday offer that other options simply can’t? Let’s look at 5 reasons you might want to choose a cruise holiday:
1. There’s so much to do
It’s almost impossible to get bored on Boat Cruise, with a huge variety of activities and ways to spend your time. The best cruise ships have swimming pools, ice rinks, gyms, cinemas, wave machines, putting greens, restaurants, basketball courts, dance and fitness classes, table tennis, pool and bar games, climbing walls and lots more. Not only that, but there are always shows on offer catering to a wide variety of audiences, from music and film to comedy and talks. If you’re after food and drink, you’ll find a variety of cafes and restaurants, buffets, wine tastings, cocktail bars and an eclectic mix of food to choose from. You’ll also find spas, hairdressers, shops, casinos, nightclubs and everything in between. Of course if you want to relax there are plenty of opportunities for sunbathing, reading and relaxing in your room, but you could never claim there’s nothing to do on a cruise ship. All of the above only applies to the ship too – you will of course also get the opportunity to take part in activities off the ship at each individual destination.
2. Children will love it
Cruises are a fantastic option for those with kids, as it’s easy for them to make friends and be part of the community, and there is an absolute wealth of things for them to do. You also don’t really have to worry about losing them, as at least you know they’ll always be on the ship! It’s also a great way to introduce your kids to a bit of culture, which any parent will understand the value of.
3. The sheer variety of destinations
Why select just one location for your holiday when a cruise offers you the chance to visit a range of different luxury holiday destinations. So not only will you get to enjoy a wide variety of different types of holiday and locations, but you don’t even need to worry about the travel between destinations! One minor drawback is it can be difficult to know what to pack, but with a bit of forethought it’s not too tough to pack for all eventualities.
4. Standard and choice of food
We’ve already covered the variety of food available, but the standard of the food on cruise ships is renowned for being excellent. From fine dining experience to poolside BBQs, you’ll be able to find superb food options any time of the day or night, and you can rest assured the standard will be excellent. If formal dining is your thing, cruise ships always offer a black tie fine dining option for guests, although you can stick to relaxed, casual restaurants if you’d prefer.
5. You will meet new people from all over the world
Cruises tend to welcome anywhere between 1,000 and 3,000 people, which will include a diverse mix of cultures and nationalities. This gives you the opportunity to meet new people and make lots of new friends, from single people to couples and families. You’ll also find that cruises are by no means filled with older people, and you’ll have the opportunity to socialise with people of all ages from all over the world.
So next time you’re planning a holiday, consider cruising as a real option, whether you’re travelling alone or with the family, there really is something for everyone.
