Becoming an aunt has been one of the most rewarding adventures in my life. I was young when my sister had her first child and now 5 years later, Ive been blessed with 3 more little munchkins.
We all know parenting is handwork, no doubt about that, and thats when being the aunt becomes so much fun. Heres a list of 5 reasons why being an aunt is better than being the parent.
1. We can spoil them.
Anything that they ask for we can provide, unlike mommy and daddy who have to teach their children that they can’t get a toy EVERY time they go to the store.
2. We can give them back.
Kids are a handful, especially having 4 of them run around. It can be overwhelming and definitely wear you out. But whats nice about being the aunt is that at the end of the day we get to send them home with their mom and dad.
3. Theres no such thing as too much sugar.
This ties in with #2, no matter how many sweets we give them, they get to go home with mommy and daddy and crash from the sugar rush that we created.
4. They will tell us things that they can’t tell their mom or dad.
Being an aunt means you’re the one they can come to and talk about things they won’t tell their parents. We become the best friend, the adult that they trust and that can offer them solid advice when they need it.
As they grow older, especially with girls, they will as for advice about boys and thats not always the most comfortable conversation with a parent so they will come to you. You get to steer them in the right direction and hopefully they listen to your advice and don’t get themselves in a bad situation.
5. They make us feel young.
Theres nothing better than getting the opportunity as an adult to go play on a playground, to swing, even going to the zoo. Going to these places with them brings back old memories for us. They make us remember the good times, when we were young and carefree.
So to my fellow aunts out there, cherish your little ones. They look up to you, and even though you may be young you are a role model. Kids learn by watching, so show them how to live life, how to enjoy every moment, how to never have regrets, and how to love unconditionally.
