Being an empath is not always easy.
It’s both a blessing and a curse; a good thing and a bad thing. Other people may sometimes find it difficult to understand us, and it’s a waste of time trying to explain.
Only those who experience it can ever truly relate, so if you love an empath, try to remember these things.
1. We soak in the emotions of those around us.
If we are around someone putting off nothing but negative energy, we too will begin to feel down, miserable, or sad.
It’s hard to be around someone who’s having a bad day without beginning to feel the same way.
2. We feel everything so deeply.
If we are happy, we are ready to spread our sunshine to the world. If we are sad, we are ready to lock ourselves in our rooms and sulk in our misery all day.
If we are angry, we feel a fire in our chests, ready to explode at any second. We take everything to heart.
Your words have the ability to cut us like a knife.
3. We cry so easily.
Whether it be a sad animal commercial, a sappy love song, or a romantic movie, if you look over, we will be in tears.
4. We want to help everyone.
Unfortunately, this is one of our biggest downfalls and our biggest strengths all at the same time. We will give the shirts off of our backs to help a random stranger.
We will break our backs trying to make everyone else happy; just trying to do anything we can to make sure others are okay. In the midst of this, we run ourselves ragged.
5. We make others our priority, and put ourselves last.
We get so caught up in helping other people, that we often forget to take care of ourselves.
We end up physically and emotionally drained, yet somehow, we keep going.
6. We are taken advantage of.
People often see us as weak. They know that we want to help others and we will stop at nothing to do so.
There will always be some asshole along the way who tries to suck us dry, not caring how much we sacrifice for them.
7. We overthink everything.
We are constantly searching for a deeper meaning or a deeper solution for everything.
8. We love so hard.
Everything that we love, we love with our whole heart. We will pour everything we have into our friendships and relationships.
We are loyal, dedicated, and persistent. It takes a lot for us to give up on anyone.
9. We hurt.
We feel your pain and our own pain. We are exhausted from trying to uplift other people and often not getting any help in return.
We hurt because deep down, we want someone to do the same for us sometimes.
Unfortunately, once we take on the care-taker role, that help rarely ever comes.
Being an empath means to have a beautiful, loving, genuine soul. If you know one, cherish them. They are the most real of them all.
