The way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. The more you get done in the morning, the better you feel about yourself, and the more productive you will continue to be as the day progresses.
So wouldn’t you want to hit the ground running from the time you wake up? Don’t you want to be a bad a** b*tch taking over the world? Don’t you wanna be successful and live up to your full potential? Don’t you want throw the middle finger up to your haters and crush your dreams?
If yes to all the above, it’s time to be proactive and take action towards embracing your inner bada** b*tch. Here’s how it’s done:
1. Plan the night before. Successful and highly productive people don’t just figure things out as they go along, they have a set plan ready to execute. They are prepared and ready for battle. This includes to-do lists, goals, picking an outfit, knowing your schedule for the full week ahead, etc.
2. Wake up early. Not only do you wake up on time, but you wake up early. You don’t hit the snooze button 10 times before you get up, you roll out of bed at the first alarm. And this first alarm is set up extra early with time to comfortably fit in your morning routine.
The early bird actually does get the worm. With more hours in the day, you can accomplish so much before the rest of the world is even awake. Now that is staying ahead of the curve.
3. Workout. If you wake up early enough and are up for a full blown workout at the gym, great! But you don’t necessarily have to go that far if you’re not up for it.
Even a simple morning workout in your own home is sufficient, be it yoga, stretching, a few strengthening exercises, or a quick jog. Getting your blood pumping in the morning pumps you up with energy and good vibes.
4. Eat Breakfast. Most people skip on breakfast because they feel it’s not an important meal or they just don’t have the time. But yes it is important and you need to make time for it.
You’re not productive when your hungry, and being hungry turns into being “hangry” (hungry + angry) after a while and we don’t want any of that. And then you end up eating more than you should for lunch to compensate. So please, eat some breakfast.
5. Read the news. Read the paper, read the internet, or read the news app. You have access to the news right at your fingertips and there is no excuse to not be up to date on current events. You don’t want to be stuck in a conversation where you clearly don’t know what’s happening in the world.
Stay relevant but also read up on news that interests you. This could be the market, cooking recipes, science, travel, whatever tickles your fancy. Don’t waste all your time pointlessly scrolling through social media.
6. Check your email. Make sure you stay on top of reading your emails. See what important updates you have from your professors or your boss. You don’t want to miss an important reminder or message. And this will also help you determine what needs to get done today and upcoming days. Don’t ever skimp out on checking your emails, it turns into a bad habit that could get you into trouble.
7. Update your to-do list. After checking your email, you can add things to your to-do list. Update the list throughout the day and every day, and give the more time sensitive things priority. This will keep you focused and on task throughout the day so you’re not just floating by only to realize you got nothing done at the end of the day.
8. Set goals. Set both professional/academic and personal goals. What kind of grades do you want at the end of the semester? What advancement do you want to reach at work? What hobbies do you want to master? Where do you want to travel?
Write down all these goals and with a date in mind. Make them as specific as possible and check back on them often to check your progress and change/update as necessary. This is a reflection of the bigger picture of your to-do list and keep you focused on a future path so you have direction.
9. Look at motivational material. To set you in the positive and winning mentality looking at motivational material works like a charm. Whether its quotes, videos, articles, or pictures, find something that stirs your energy and passions.
Having your own personalized motivational board to look at every day helps you bring your vision to life. The more often and clearer you can picture your goals and desires and passions, the more driven and successful you will be.
While most people wake up late, rush to get ready, waste time on social media, and feel grumpy in the morning, you’ve mastered the art of becoming a successful morning person. This will help shape your life into a healthier, happier, more successful future.
Now go take over the world.
