A Journey Trough Queen's Most Important Songs

The diversity in their music varies from hard rock to pop rock with disco elements and they sure made an influence to the worldwide musical stage, which – having the energetic and flamboyant Freddie Mercury as the lead singer, is no surprise. Starting from 1970, the British band created a large number of catchy and well made tunes. The following is a list of songs (that aren’t ranked) by Queen that everyone should know, although it is safe to say that all of their work is something people should know out of general knowledge.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Easy come – easy go…

This is by far the most popular and well-known song by Queen. Combining rock music with elements from opera, this tune has managed to be one of the most distinct and original songs in popular culture. The song became UK’s third best-selling single of all time and it was a huge success on a commercial scale. Although arguably mainstream and overused, this tune is well made and more than worth appreciating.

I Want To Break Free

Written by John Deacon, this catchy pop rock tune managed to attain huge popularity in Europe and South America. Due to its quite free-nature lyrics, the song became a theme of fighting against oppression. In the song’s music video directed by David Mallet, the band members can be seen dressed as women, making it one of the most memorable videos recorded by the band.

We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You

Although these are two different songs, they are similar in terms of theme and lyrics and are always played one after another on the band’s live performances. That is the main reason these two tunes are talked about and put on lists as one in media. Due to their catchy rhythm and positive lyrics, there songs are some of the most frequently used tunes in different forms of entertainment, such as movies and even sport games.

Don’t Stop Me Now

Thanks to the catchy piano sounds and Freddie’s distinct vocal, it is no wonder that this song has received it’s fair share of popularity. The song’s rhythm and the party-animal lyrics make the song a perfect tune to dance and drink shots to. So let the party begin!

Who Wants To Live Forever

Although it goes more on the depressing side than Queen’s average track does, this is definitely part of the band’s extremely original and distinct discography. Written and partly sung by Brian May – yet another extremely cool band member, this song was soundtrack to the movie Highlander. With the highly existential and dark lyrics and Freddie’s vocal as well as Brian’s guitar, this is one of Queen’s most powerful tunes.

Who waits forever anyway?

The Show Must Go On

Released only six weeks before Mercury’s death due to HIV complications, this song has never been part of their live performances. According to Brian May, he wasn’t sure if Freddie could physically withstand the making of the track’s studio version. But despite the doubts Brian had, the band’s lead vocalist and front-man did a great job at recording it, correspondingly to the song’s lyrics. Freddie sure did find the way to carry on with the show.
