Celebrate Your Independence

Being single isn't that bad. I've spent most of my life being single, and there are many reasons to embrace the single life rather than feeling sorry for yourself.

In honor of Independence Day, I wanted to make a list of some of the perks of being single.

1) You can literally do whatever you want

So this is an obvious perk, which needs little to no explanation. I mean you get to go wherever you want without any sort of control. If you want to stay in bed all day, you can.

And you won't be judged if you want to Netflix "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," all day. There is no one to tell you what to do or when to wake up. You don't have to compromise. It's your life.

2) Going out is way more exciting

OK, so if you've ever been in a relationship and gone out without your significant other, it's incredibly awkward, especially if you're going out with all your single friends.

But beyond that point, I think there is a little bit of good nervous energy when you're going out and constantly meeting new people. It's more fun and carefree, and you can flirt with whoever you want.

There really is something special about all your friends convincing you to go up to someone in a bar or club. It's exhilarating.

3) You get to reinvent yourself

So if you take away one point of this article, let it be this one. When your attention isn't on someone else, it can feel empty. You can try filling up that emptiness with other people, or you can embrace yourself.

Fill that vacancy with things you've always wanted to do. If you want to go skydiving, then go for it.

If there's somewhere you've always wanted to explore or a hobby you want to take on, then go for it because this is the time to do it.

4) You get to play the field

This is for all the serial daters out there that hop from one relationship to the next. Don't be afraid to date and experiment.

This is the time to try casual dating to see what you truly want in a partner. Take risks and don't be afraid to live a little.

5) You accept yourself

Finally, you get an opportunity to explore yourself. You'll be able to find some inner peace about past and future relationships.

You'll be able to show that you're a strong independent person who can't be stopped. Happy Fourth of July!
