Dear Marginalized Groups, Please Help Me Become a Better Feminist

The Oxford English Dictionary defines feminism as

The advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

What this really means is not only are women are equal to men, but all women are equal to men. Not only white women are equal to men, straight women are equal to men, cis women are equal to men, able-bodied women are equal to men, but all women are equal to men.

I am a white and I identify as a feminist. I am doing my best to be an intersectional feminist, but I need a bit of help.

I know that I have privileges that many marginalized groups do not have. I see how harmful nonintersectional feminism is for other movements by marginalized groups.

I know that what is an issue for you may not be an issue for me. Because of this, I may need some briefing so I am no longer ignorant. I need you to teach me how I can be the most helpful to you.

I apologize for the majority of my demographic that elected a leader that has put you in danger. I apologize for those who have minimized your issues and put their own first. I apologize for the country that has treated you so wrong for so long.

Please teach me how I can help. I don't want to be categorized with the hateful and discriminatory demographic. I don't want to be disregarded because of what others have done. I want to stand for you, and stand with you. I not only want to stand in solidarity with you, I want to fight for you.

I want to be on the front lines with you.

I know this country has not been kind to you. I know you probably have no faith or trust in me, and I don't blame you for that.

Just know some of us are looking to be the change and we'd be honored to stand with you if you'd allow us to do so.
