I have never really thought of myself as a feminist because I am not an extremist like the media portrays feminist to be. But recently the media has drawn me into thinking about what feminism really is and where do I fit when we talk about feminism.

If you do not already know the actual definition of Feminism it is the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social and economic equality to men.

A lot of the feminist campaigns work to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, sexual assault and domestic violence. It is sad to think that us women today still have to fight to be protected by these things when they should already be protected in our rights.

More and more girls are being raped, have had some sort of sexual harassment/assault, and are in domestic violent relationships today.

Most women/girls choose to hide it which is awful, but totally understandable, because the girls who are brave enough to do anything about it end up having to then fight the law to protect them from something that we should already be protected by.

Now we teach our girls how to protect themselves from men. They tell us it is not our fault, but then continue teach us how to prevent it from happening when in reality that shouldn't even be necessary.

Why can't we all just keep our hands to ourselves, or if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all, or just follow the golden rule, treat others the way you want to be treated. And … why are we not teaching guys what the word no means?

The word no is suppose to be a powerful word that does not need context to know what it means. We were taught at a young age that when our parents said no we were not suppose to do something. So why has that meaning suddenly gone away?

The power of no goes much further than just rape and sexual assault. It also has to do with the way girls not only treat others, but treat themselves.

We allow people to treat us badly and walk all over us and we think that that is okay when its not.

Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. But the only way anyone is going to treat anyone right is if we start treating our selves right. We need to learn to love ourselves so we can let others in to love us as much. So lets start following the golden rule and treat everyone right.

If you can get anything from reading this I hope I was able to inspire you treat yourself better and other people. One act of kindness can go a long way.
