In light of the recent elementary school shooting we have chosen to reshare this post.
This past weekend, not one but two shootings have happened. The first one was on Friday, June 10th in Orlando. 22 year old singer Christina Grimmie was signing autographs after her concert at The Plaza Live when she was fatally shot.
The gunman, who had no relation to her, traveled from St. Petersburg, Florida with two handguns, two magazines, and a hunting knife. After being tackled by Grimmie’s brother Marcus, the gunman shot himself.
The second shooting happened on Sunday June 12, at Pulse, a gay nightclub also in Orlando, Florida. 50 lives were lost, while another 53 were injured.
The gunman, called 911 during the attack stating his allegiance to ISIS, and mentioned the Boston Marathon bombings.
He brought in an assault rifle along with a pistol and starting shooting. This lasted three hours until police crashed the building using an armed vehicle and stun grenades killing the gunman.
This has been the biggest mass shooting in the United States and the its worst terrorist attack since 9/11.
When will this end? When will there a change be made to gun laws? You would think there would’ve been a change after the Sandy Hook shooting back in
2012 where 20 children and six adults were shot.
So far in 2016. there has been 175 mass shootings. That’s 175 too many.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution, states that Americans have the right to bear arms and that “it shall not be infringed”. Americans own “35-50 percent of the world’s civilian owned handguns.”
Also anyone that is under 18, has a criminal record, mentally disabled, dishonorably discharged, or an unlawful alien, cannot buy a gun. Background checks are required.
Canada on the other hand, you have to be over 18, have a background check, and take a public safety course. Anyone wanting to own restricted firearm handguns, rifles, and shotguns), are required to get a federal registration certificate. They cannot be transported in public.
In 2012, 8,813 murders happened in the United States. In Canada? Only 172. Unbelievable.
If the United States had gun laws like Canada there would be way less gun violence.
There needs to be a change now, before any more innocent lives are lost.
