If They Just Don't Love You Back, Stop Trying and Let Them Go

Unrequited love is a gut wrenching reality. No matter how devoted your heart is to someone, they won't always feel the same.

It's only natural to worry that you're bothering the one you love. You'll think about him so much that you can't help but text, but even just starting a conversation will make you nervous.

After enough dismissive responses and excuses not to hang out, you'll come to realize you're locked in a chase – but you're not the one being sought after.

But you'll still want him with every ounce of your soul, and the hope that he'll eventually fall for you will keep you trying long past the relationship's expiration date.

It's hard to admit, even just to yourself, that a love you feel so deeply is going nowhere.

When you do face that fact, you'll begin to hate yourself for not being able to make him love you.

You'll wish you could become someone else, someone he'd consider worthy, but changing yourself won't convince him to share his heart with you.

The truth is: you can’t force him to feel anything. And honestly, you shouldn’t want to; keeping someone in your life who doesn’t reciprocate your feelings is utterly exhausting and never worth the trouble.

Whatever the reasons, whether the timing isn’t right or the feelings just aren’t there, it’s time to stop worrying that you’re not enough and trying so hard despite getting nothing in return.

It’s painful to walk away from someone you love, but it’s even worse to beg them to stay when you know their heart isn’t in it.

Just let go; not for them, for yourself. Break the never-ending cycle of hurt; save your effort for someone who will recognize how much you have to offer.

You're not accepting defeat; you're just acknowledging that you deserve a love that's given to you as freely as you give yours to others.

Audi is a 27 year old graduate, from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors Degree in English who one day aspires to attend law school. I am an avid lover of football, baseball, soccer, horror movies, selfies and napping. At a young age I loved reading and writing stories and connecting with people and from that sparked my endless rambling on about anything I can talk to others about. Writing is a huge passion of mine, it can bring so many different cultures and backgrounds together. If my writing reaches out to just one person and makes them feel better about themselves or the situation they are going through then it's worth every moment of vulnerability and putting yourself out there. Everyone struggles whether they vocalize it or internalize and sometimes you just need someone to relate to, or better yet someone to tell you that it's okay and things have to always get better. So just think of me as that friend who always has an open ear and attempts to help you make sense of it all.
