“To those who have given up on love, I say: 'trust life a little bit.'” – Maya Angelou
Giving up on love is the biggest mistake we could ever make in life.
We often hear people saying things like, "I'm done looking for love, it's not worth the risk of getting hurt again."
We blame love for our suffering, but we have no idea what it actually is. We've been conditioned to assume it means losing ourselves in someone else and making constant sacrifices for that person.
We think it means being with someone who pretends to know what’s best for both of us and deprives us of the space we need to grow on our own.
But all that truly is, is a controlling relationship. A genuine one is not interested in manipulating, trying to change, or caging another person.
When we're truly and completely committed, there's no room for jealousy or games.
We've all been hurt by bad relationships, but seem to misplace the blame. What we need to give up are unhealthy relationships and toxic people, not love itself.
Because real love is the only thing truly worth holding onto in this world.
What actually breaks our hearts are the expectations we have about how it "should" feel and how relationships are "supposed to" work.
We want the cuddles in bed, the butterflies in our stomachs, the constant giggles, the heart to hears. But when it's real, it's not only about the good times.
It's standing together through even the worst days and working to make each other stronger. It's caring about their needs more than your own without even realizing.
Love means choosing one another every single day, even when it would be so much easier to give up and walk away.
True love is the most powerful force on Earth and with it, we can weather any storm.
So I'll leave you with this,
“Would you just stay with me?
Stay with you? What for? Look at us! We're already fighting!
Well that's what we do! We fight! You tell me when I'm being an arrogant son of a bitch and I tell you when you're being a pain in the ass! Which you are, 99% of the time. I'm not afraid to hurt your feelings, you have like a two-second rebound rate and you're back doing the next pain in the ass thing.
So, what?
So it's not gonna be easy, it's gonna be really hard. And we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I wanna do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever. You and me. Everyday.” – Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook
