I poked my head out of the window, my hands still wrapped around the steering wheel. This was just another attempt at living life to the fullest, at having the wind play with my hair, at meeting the golden sunflowers.
For the first time in my life, I felt His hands come over mine. I eased my hands out of His without a second thought so He could take over the wheel.
With a dab of nervousness but countless strokes of confidence and peace, I placed my left foot on the seat and then my right. My knees sat on the armrest, my body out of the window. I breathed in and out, in and out, taking in the fresh air.
I smiled as I outstretched my arms to the clouds. My fingertips became dancers, leaping across the sky's soft pillows.
My smile grew as each second went by until I broke out into laughter, tears of happiness slowly – Oh! Why, hello Wind.
She got a hold of what she loves most about me: my hair. She combed the long curls back and forward with her fingers, made braids only to undo them and make them again.
It took her some time to part ways with my hair, but once she did, she was free to do something magical.
She tossed pink rose petals toward me. The petals pranced and twirled, eventually nestling in my hair to form a crown. I felt like a princess.
The onlookers were rows upon rows of sunflowers, and as if aware of my thought of being royalty, they began to cheer. I heard my name being sung in the most beautiful way.
I began to cry again; I really was somebody. The sunflowers leaned toward me, their leaves reaching for my hands.
I extended my arms to touch every leaf within my grasp. The sunflowers' cheers and songs grew louder.
I bent down to look inside the car and there He was, smiling at me. He wasn't concentrating on the road.
"Thank you," I mouthed. "Thank you." I didn't want to speak over the sunflowers.
He continued to smile, His eyes glistening. "You're very welcome," He said. "Just let me handle it, okay? I love you."
