Sometimes I get caught up in trying so hard to adult with the least amount of fails that I tend to forget about how much I’m already killin’ it. No, I haven’t landed the six figure dream job yet but I can get through an entire day without being a total train wreck and that’s majorly because of coffee and the person who taught me how to make the best cup of it, my mom.
I try my best to be a daughter you’re proud of but I’d be lying if I said that I’m finally at a point where I can do things without you. Truth be told, I’m always going to need you.
You may not even realize it, especially since I still call you asking how much milk and butter I should be adding to my mac and cheese, but mom, you have done sooo much for me.
If it wasn’t for you, then I wouldn’t even know the importance of sorting my laundry, or that if the tag says hand-wash that I definitely shouldn’t put it in the dryer. I’d for sure be living off cereal and toast if you didn’t teach me how to make my now staple chicken dinner. You’ve taught me the essentials to get through everything from my morning routine to my five-year plan. Because of you, I know how to make a bed in an actual efficient way that doesn’t require me wrestling with my sheets. And you’ve helped me build my dreams and more importantly, my credit so that I can have the future I deserve.
I may not even realize it, especially because there are days I call you ten times in a row just so you can step-by-step walk me through something, but mom, you are the reason I am able to work and live on my own.
I’m nowhere near ready to do all you do as a mom. Seriously, I may not need you to tuck me in at night, but there’s no way I could do all you do in just one day.
Hopefully though, when and if the time does come, I hope to be as great as a mom as you are and pass down all of life’s greatest hacks that you have taught me.
But without a doubt, I know that no matter the stage of my life, I will always need you.
Thank you for everything you have and will teach me. Thank you for always being there for me.
Oh and thank you for always answering my Facetimes…even if it is the fourth one of the day.
