# Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan and Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman: Why choose Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan and Miss Israel Adar Gandelsman for the first place? Well, who else would have created such a big impact just by dropping a selfie on Social Media rather than Miss Iraq? Confused what I’m talking about? No clue?
Okay, let’s start from the beginning. The Iraq-born Idan, who moved to the United States to study music, is her home country’s first competitor in 45 years which is already something extraordinary. Now let’s see what she did. Those who has a little bit of interest in world politics, certainly knows that Israel and Iraq do not have diplomatic relations. But that merely could stop the two countries’ representatives in the Miss Universe 2017 beauty pageant from taking a selfie that has drawn the attention of the whole world and still is the center point of criticism across social media.
Both Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman, and Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan who is also known as Eadan, posted the photo that she captured on November 14 in Las Vegas on their individual Instagram accounts 10 days earlier. And that was it. Without even any further conclusion, the joint selfie of the two forced thousands to comment on each post and literally, unleashed a havoc of user responses and media attention.
Most of the people who commented, praised the two young women for sending out a message of peace and hope. But not only the ordinary Facebook and Instagram user but also powerful politicians like Ofir Gendelman who is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesperson to the Arab media, praised to his heart’s content by commenting “a great message of hope for the region” and wished luck to both of them which is not a simple matter. For the records, this one simple selfie that has sparked the light of world peace and friendship has already earned 2,300 likes on Idan’s original selfie post and the number is increasing every minute.
