The Single Girl Thought Process About Engagement Posts on Social Media

Every year between Christmas and Valentine’s Day, there's an influx of engagements on every social media platform;

Relationship statuses on Facebook switch from “in a relationship with" to “engaged to".

Ring photos replace the constant stream of selfies on Instagram.

The hashtags “#engaged" and “#justengaged" take over Twitter.

And every single girl in the world sits there and thinks…

  • Another engagement? I just saw three last week.

  • Oh, that’s a nice ring.

  • I think when I get engaged I’ll want a non-traditional ring.

  • Yeah, that will really get a lot of likes when I post it on social media.

  • Not that the number of likes my engagement post gets makes my ring good or bad.

  • Why am I thinking about this when I’m not even dating anyone?

  • What if my best friend is next?

  • Oh my GOD, there’s ANOTHER ONE.

  • That ring is subpar to the last one.

  • I wonder if she wanted a ring that shape…

  • What if my future husband buys me the wrong ring?

  • Oh my GOD, why is there ANOTHER ENGAGEMENT?

  • I’ve literally been on Facebook for five minutes.

  • Why is everyone and their mother getting engaged right now?

  • That ring is gorgeous.

  • I wonder how much a rock that big costs…

  • Aren’t you supposed to spend like three months of salary on an engagement ring?

  • That’s so much money, even on my shitty salary.

  • I don’t think I’d want a guy to spend that much money.

  • Aw, they’re so in love.

  • Why am I not in love with someone?

  • Why am I not getting engaged?

  • Should I be in a relationship where and engagement could happen?

  • Wait…I don’t even want to be in a relationship right now.

  • I’ll just enjoy the rings vicariously.

  • And then I’ll continue to enjoy my life without having to worry about any other human.

And the process will continue until well after February 14th…and pick up again next holiday season.
