The Ultimate List to Make Habit of Before You're 20

Before you're twenty may seem like an odd age to accomplish a list of 10 new habits, but really, its kind of the age where you stop one life and start another. Why not start this life with a brand new set of awesome habits that make your twenty-something years sweet and easy. These are just a few points to remember and to do before you hit the big 20.

1.      First of all, smile more.

You should be smiling as much as you can. We only live our life once, why spend it frowning? Smile at the little things life gives you. Plus, the stories you will be able to tell later on will sound a lot better if you were smiling while making them.

2.      Dance in the rain.

Okay I mean that both figuratively and literally. Actually do it, dance when it’s pouring cats and dogs and enjoy yourself. Then dance on the days when you would rather be in bed hiding from the world. I guess, just embrace the bad AND the good that life throws at you.

3.      Travel more.

Yeah, I understand we have barely enough money to go out on a Friday night let alone travel, but that’s what piggy banks and Wells Fargo are for. Save up, travel somewhere new with your friends before you have more adult responsibilities than you already do. Don’t tie yourself down before you don’t have too.

 4.      Spend more time in nature.

Not everyone loves camping or hiking, but seriously, go outside every now and then. If you live in a city, sit in the park and read or do homework. Whatever it is you like to do, incorporate it outside for a change. Because someday you might be cooped up in an office WISHING you were outside.

5.      Exercise every day, or at least every other day.

As much as you have the time for it. Get outside, walk the dog, walk to the store instead of wasting gas, go to the gym, I don’t care, just get off your lazy ass once in a while and get moving. Seriously though, it's hard when all we want to do is finish our new favorite Netflix series, but this habit will make us much happier in the long run.

6.      Spend some time with your family.

They don’t live forever, and you won’t be at home forever and either do you. Put down your phone and talk to your parents and hangout with your younger siblings. Even call up ol’grandma and grandpa every now and then for lunch. You will miss these days.

 7.      Go out and party.

Seriously, you will regret it one day if you don’t have at least one crazy night of shenanigans. I mean don’t get to out of hand, just have a good night every now and then. A night where you wake up and think, “what the hell did I do last night” trust me, it will create hundreds of story worthy memories with your friends in years to come.

 8.      Serial date.

Yeah that may sound bad, and I’m not saying to go out and be a whore, but go on dates. Get to know people. Talk to someone new. You never know what kind of person you’re interested in if you don’t take the chance to try out different types of people. Just be careful, use protection, and don’t do anything your mother wouldn’t do. Or just, don’t have sex right away either.

 9.      Get into daily habits that help your health and wellbeing.

Like point number 5, exercise is key. Other than the obvious with exercising helping, get into daily habits that help your skin, your teeth, and anything else that you feel may need improvements. A daily beauty routine to rejuvenate yourself. Plus, eat a little bit more fruit and vegetables. You can still eat that donut though, you’ve only got one life to live.

10.  Find yourself.

I don’t know how many people spend their years looking for a significant other and don’t bother to find themselves. It’s a big world out there and its way to easy to lose yourself in it. Be careful and be kind to yourself. Treat yourself every now and then before worrying about some stupid guy or some petty girl.

Because remember, it's okay to be single, it's okay to have fun, and it's okay to do things that might seem iffy. You are establishing these habits and making memories before you're 20.
