To My Boyfriend Who Became Family

The stages of dating can really throw you for a loop – when does one stage end and the next begin?

The answers may not be so simple and complex the first couple of go-rounds, but when things start to get serious the relationship fog clears. That is, for you and your significant other anyway.

You reach the point in your relationship where you both almost simultaneously just know that this relationship goes far and beyond all of the others. There’s a spark and a connection that’s never made itself clear ever before. A spark and a connection that go deeper than physical attraction. But rather, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Physically you can’t explain it or even begin to put these feelings into words, mentally you can’t wrap your head around finally uncovering the meaning of love, and emotionally you’ve never felt so alive.

It’s almost as if a scientist in a lab combined two chemicals, labeled them “You and I” and the outcome stirred up a reaction so strong not even the scientist could undo this chemical reaction.

It’s the equivalence of two universes colliding. No idea the other universe exists until one day their paths cross causing them to collide and become one. Creating a universe so big not even the God’s could tear them apart.

There’s always going to be someone or something that continuously tries to tear us down. Putting a boulder the size of the states in the pathway of this person or object won’t have any affect what-so-ever. And that’s, unfortunately, what we’re facing head-on.

At what point in time will the answers to all of this non-sense present themselves?

At what point in time will they realize that the “company phase” has transitioned into the “family phase?” Because, quite frankly, it’s well overdue.

You aren’t just this guy anymore, in fact, you never were “just a guy” – you have always been far more. You are not just a face with a name … you are more. And by more I mean, you are the other half of my heart, the half that makes me whole, the member of my family I didn’t know I needed. You are my boyfriend, my best friend and the newest member of the family.

But why exactly is this so hard to see for some? This question may never be answered, but that won’t separate our universes or even change the fact that you are now and forever will be apart of the family. Some people take a little longer to come around, I guess, and it hurts me in the process, but I’ll be as patient as I can. Because you being treated as anything other than family is not okay.

We don’t share the same blood, or even the same last name, but one day I truly believe that our universes will share the same name. I just hope that well before then you are seen and accepted by each and every one of my own family members, blood and non-blood, just as they are seen to me – family.

You are just as much family and it hurts me to know that you have yet to be accepted as just that. You, my love, are no longer company – you are family. We are family.

My life is about as random yet as accurate as these posts. I don't know how my boyfriend does it, but bless his heart - he's the real MVP.  Twitter handle: WhyYesItsFaith Facebook URL: https://www.facebook.com/UnsolicitedThoughts/
