To My High School Sweetheart On Our Anniversary

“I  have found the one whom my soul loves.” –Song of Solomon 3:4

This is the Bible verse my mind immediately goes to when I think of you.  When I saw you, when I really saw you, my soul kind of said, “There you are, I have been looking for you.”

You are awesome and I mean really awesome.  You work so very hard at everything you do, from changing the oil on my car and getting all greasy (which is super handsome) to constantly studying for school.

How awesome is it that we found each other so young, like seriously, who would have thought I would have found the person I’m going to spend the rest of my life with in 9th grade?  I don’t think anyone expects that, but here we are and I must say, we’re killing it.  We were best friends, but I think I knew from the start that our friendship was going to grow into something more.  From watching your football games to you watching my volleyball games, I couldn’t imagine going through high school with anyone else by my side.  You’re one of the good ones, dude and I’m forever grateful for that.

High school was real and it was fun, but it wasn’t real fun.  High school was over, summer was ending, and before we knew it, it was time for us to venture off to different colleges.  Freshman year was tough, but it taught us patience (something I NEVER had).  We skyped, we saw each other over breaks, and we tried to fit each other into our busy schedules, but something just wasn’t right.  “But if  we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” –Romans 8:25

I realized home is not a place, it’s a person and you are mine, you’re my home.  You are where I want to be at the end of the day.  I know it sounds cliché, but you complete me.  So, here we are at the same college, doing life together and I wouldn’t want to adult with anyone else (because let’s admit it, adulating is really hard).

So, let me just say thank you.  Thank you for loving me even when it was tough.  Thank you for loving me through an anxiety attack.  Thank you for loving me when I have a migraine and all I can do is throw up and lie there.  Thank you for loving me when I’m not so lovable.  Thanks for loving Jesus with me, praying with me, and reading the Bible with me.  Thank you for never getting tired over my obsession of elephants and all farm animals (they’re just so freaking cute).

Life gets pretty hard, but if you can find someone who is willing to dance with you in the kitchen to Chris Stapleton, then life can be a little easier.

Happy 5th Anniversary.  I love you immensely.
