The popularity of preloved and vintage clothing has been booming lately with bloggers devoting their fashion lives to only buying clothing that is second hand, preloved and of course vintage.
The thought of wearing preloved or vintage clothing is quite like marmite for many people – you either love it or you hate it. There is no middle feeling for people when it comes to preloved clothing which causes huge fashion divides, however with vintage clothing it’s a completely different story.
Many people do not see preloved and vintage clothing as the same thing. There is a big misconception in the fashion world which portrays preloved clothing as tatty and second class, whereas vintage clothing is portrayed as a luxury. But are they not both the same thing? They are both second hand clothing that someone had bought but no longer has any use for anymore and is being sold to go to a better home.
Personally, I love both preloved and vintage clothing equally and I will outline my reasons why. There are so many fashion possibilities with preloved and vintage clothing that cannot be achieved when buying something from a normal high street store. Without preloved and vintage clothing suppliers such as Messina Hembry, I would not have the fun, unique and eccentric wardrobe that I have today that reflects me and my personality as well as it does now, and for that I am thankful that I opened up my fashion eyes to the world of second hand clothing.
1. Affordable pre-loved and vintage fashion
If you are a lover of designer gear like me but cannot afford to pay the same price tags as Kim Kardashian then a preloved item of vintage clothing is most likely your best bet. Let’s face it, when you are working for minimum wage you just cannot afford to or justify spending thousands of pounds on designer bags, shoes and clothes. But with preloved and vintage clothing you can have all this designer gear at a fraction of the prices!
2. Quality
How likely are you to put quality, preloved and vintage in the same sentence? Not many people believe that preloved clothing would be of higher and better quality than the top you bought from River Island for the same price.
If you think about it, before a piece of preloved or vintage clothing reaches you it would have been bought first by someone who probably paid a hefty price for it in order to ensure it was packed full of the finest quality.
4. Unique
No one likes to follow the crowd. We all like to have our own style and being called ‘mainstream’ has become somewhat of an insult.
With second hand, preloved and vintage clothing, you can achieve that unique style you have always wanted. Whether you see yourself as a 90s kid that should have been around for the 60s fashion era or the opposite, you can be sure that with preloved and vintage clothing you can achieve any look you want.
5. Dress like an A-lister
How many times do we all flick through a magazine and drool over what the celebrities are wearing and dream of winning the lottery to afford those high end designer branded clothing that costs as much as our mortgages? Well, with preloved and vintage clothing, you can dress like a Hollywood super star without paying the A-lister price tag.
6. The pre-loved treasure chest of vintage gold
“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”. Although Forest Gump was not talking about preloved clothing at the time he said this, but it definitely applies!
As I said earlier, with preloved clothing, your fashion possibilities are endless. You can never have any expectations about what you are going to find as they will always get topped with the amazing, interesting and unique types and styles of clothing you’ll find. This is why so many of us love shopping at a pre-loved and vintage store, because it is like a massive treasure hunt and you will always come out with some great pieces of gold!
