Sure, ‘Wine Wednesday’ is a thing, they’ve even put it on shirts, glasses and weirdly, mugs. However, real winos do it up on Fridays. They pour glass after glass not worrying about an awful headache they will have to endure all day at work or even at school.
The real wine lovers, celebrate wine more than one day a week, but Friday is the day that they set aside to wholeheartedly appreciate wine and have a gathering to prove it.
Here’s how to have an picture perfect Wine Friday:
1. Wine.
The most important part of Wine Friday. The most important decision: white or red. It can take a good 30 minutes to decide this while standing in the alcohol section of the Gas station or the CVS by your apartment.
Go with both, it will save you crucial Wine Friday time. Maybe even throw in a rosè.
2. Friends that are invested in your problems and you in theirs.
This is the Whine part. If you can’t complain to your friends, who do you complain to? Your hairstylist or the bag boy at the grocery store?
I’m sure both of those people would prefer you get out your frustrations on the comfort of the couch, with a glass of wine and friendly sympathy.
Venting with wine is the equivalent of guys drinking beer and watching sports. Talking is our sport, wine is the ball, we are the team. We love metaphors!
3. Pretend you are sommeliers.
In a way you are. You are taking the first step to wine professionalism by hosting a regular Wine Friday.
So go ahead and spring for the $15 or $20 bottle of wine rather than the usual $6-10 options. Sniff your wine before drink it, swish it in your glass and in your mouth.
You are fancy and this is how you relax.
Nothing makes a girl feel more classy and more calm then feeling like she is Lisa Vanderpump hosting a wine tasting.
4. Make it picture perfect.
Wine Fridays will be documented. As the old wise adage goes: “Pics or it didn’t happen.”
So make it cute. Put out snacks and cute coasters. Wear that cute lounge set from Forever 21 that has a pun about wine or coffee. Your group photo will have so many squad goals.
Plus, pictures are great memories and great reasons to keep the group gatherings going, even when sometimes you just wanna down a Chardonnay alone in your bathtub.
5. Comfort and class leads to a warm ass.
That’s not a thing, but it should be. You need blankets and pillows and maybe a blanket fort. Cuddling with blankets and friends is the coziest way to relax and talk about the struggles of adulthood.
Dating is hard, but your floor shouldn’t be. Lay out pillows and fluffy blankets.
Make your hosting space look like the inside of a genie’s bottle or Taylor Swift’s apartment, which I imagine to be warm, cozy and full of glitter.
6. Take your time.
Wine with friends should be drank slowly and meaningfully. Taste every sip, and talk about what it tastes like or if you’re getting notes of pears and apples.
This way you are learning about wine, so you’re not just drinking it to get drunk and you’re not slurring your words when it’s your turn to vent.
You might even find yourself saying “Next week I’ll bring some fettuchine because it will pair great with the wine we had tonight.” People will be hella impressed with you and you will be with yourself.
Here’s a tip to get your started: white wine, white pasta. Red wine, red pasta. BAM.
7. Pick Your theme.
Is this the kind of wine party where you put on reruns of Girls, half watch and decide who amongst you is the Hannah, Marnie, Shosh, etc.?
Or, is it the kind where you play 90’s music and twirl in your night gown while a glass of wine in your hand and a smile on your face?
You decide the tone for Wine Friday and the best part is, no Wine Friday’s have to be the same. They can be like cute tea parties or like Brandi Glanville at dinner party. The choice is yours!
Wine Friday is freedom, this is your Super Bowl, but it happens whenever you want. Every week has the potential for a new level of greatness.
8. Do you.
Wine is a special type of alcohol. Unlike, tequila you don’t take your clothes off and call your ex, you just relax. You may feel more touchey-feely or emotional, but you are less of a stress case than you were when you started drinking.
It’s the perfect drink and the perfect atomsphere for truly being your real self and appreciating your sweet friends. Life is hard, but there’s this magical elixir that makes your problems seems few and far between.
You’re drinking happy juice and you’re surrounded by great friends. What could be better?
After a couple Wine Fridays you’ll learn the wine is great, but your friends are better. Ready for some cheese with that wine? Here it goes:
Wine is paired best with friends.
