Covid-19 Isolation A Poem

Covid-19 Isolation

When the news first broke

I felt like it was still a joke.

In a society where we pride ourselves on being the best

We rapidly turned into all of the rest.

How crazy is it that something can spread so quickly

Leaving some of us healthy and some of us sickly.

But if we work together and do our part,

We’ll continue to live in the world of art.

As the world around me panicked and left me in shock
It didn’t truly hit me until I felt like I was locked.

When the kids left school on Friday afternoon

The only thing I could process were peaceful happy tunes.

I asked myself, When will I see the kids? Will we return?

How will we continue as a community and learn?

Will this road be short? Or will it be long?

When we come back together, maybe we will all write a song..

What should I take with me? What will I need?

How do we work together so we can all succeed?

Through practicing social distancing and sending virtual hugs

I hope we can eliminate this horrendous bug.

So I went to the store and what did I find?

When I looked at the shelves I couldn’t believe my mind.

I found some Soyaki and kale pizza crust,

And a few boxes of cookies with a little bit of dust.

This is a wild adventure and an unknown path,

But during this time I’ll practice my teaching of online writing, reading, and math.

It’s unsettling to not know how long this will last,

But one thing I know for sure is that I can wait for it to pass.
