If You Want an Honest Answer, Stop Asking “How Are You?”

How Are You?

When’s the last time you responded to “how are you” with anything other than the never-failing lie “I’m fine?” A legitimate question has been reduced to an uninspired greeting with a boilerplate response

  1. How are you feeling?

By asking how someone’s feeling, you’re inviting them to dig deeper and giving them the option of expanding the conversation.

  1. What’re you up to?

Many people find it easier to talk about what they’re doing than how they’re feeling, so you’re likely to get an honest response.

  1. Whatcha thinking about?

This isn’t a surface level question, it shows you’re actually interested in what they’re going through.
