Rejuvenating Your Marriage
It is natural for romance to dissipate in a marriage, even when you don’t have problems. Sometimes, you can be too invested in your job or in the kids to the point that you will not even know when the romance ends or when your love life goes south. That is why every couple needs to find fun ways to keep their romantic fire blazing and to keep feeling like newlyweds.
Of course, you need to continue taking care of your kids, keeping up your home. And since we all love our kids, our houseplants, pets, and our homes creature comfort, try maintaining your household as a couple as a way of bringing the romantic spark back into the marriage.
However, if the sexiest, most romantic thing you do in the house is brushing your teeth together, then you need to get out of that house to look for other ways to get closer to your spouse.
Here are some ways to invite the passion back into your marriage.
1. Define your problems
All couples have problems, only some couples choose to sweep those problems under the rug instead of talking them out. So be bold enough to talk about what works and what doesn’t, what makes you both happy and what needs improvement. And most importantly, what do you need to change in your lives so that you can keep falling in love with one another every day.
So go out to a quiet place together and envision a perfect day in your perfect relationship. And share with one another how you think that day looks like, and how you can change things from your current reality to the “perfect” new reality. You need to be honest with one another for this conversation to be fruitful.
2. Express your love
Don’t let your role as a father or a mom kill he spark from your romantic life. Being a parent doesn’t mean a dull and passionless marital life.
And just because you are a senior executive at work doesn’t mean you are the boss when you get home. When your partner is around, no matter the company you are with, let loose and let the sunshine in. Make it a habit to show affection to your partner. Don’t think about it; just do it! Make small gestures such as giving him/her surprises and gifts. The gifts don’t have to be fancy or “perfect”. They need to be thoughtful and expressive of your love. A personalized photo pendant necklace, for example, would make a great gift for your wife especially if you add her favorite photo or a photo of you together.
