2. The movement hates white people.

The statement that “black lives matter??? is not anti-white propaganda. There is an unspoken statement but implied meaning that other lives matter. This suggestive “too??? implies one of inclusion. However white people who continue to devalue the life of black people and suggest we are only anti-white are suggesting that in order for white lives to matter, black ones cannot matter. This motivates white supremacy thinking – and harms what we stand for.

The Black Lives Matter movement focuses on getting the country to affirm the black gap and the issues that we as the black community face. We are failing in public schools, have an increase in housing inequality, and increase in gentrification that continues to push colored people out of homes. We focus on dismantling the system in the judicial branches, which contain mass incarceration of black men.  None of what we are doing is about the hatred of white life.

It is about acknowledging that there is a system in place that favors in some regard white lives as more. More value, and worthy of education, life, and safety and that is not okay.

3. We hate police officers.

This is not true. Police officers are people. And their lives like our own have admirable value. This movement has never been promoted as anti-people or anti-police-officer. We recognize the tragedies. And we know that there are police officers that come to work and are making a living for their families, and promote safety in all they do.

This does not mean though that police are not or have not been involved in the system that has criminalized some black people, and has sometimes made the assumption that black people are unsafe and dangerous. In some cases we have seen more aggressive and less protection given to the same community some officers have promised to protect. We demand to be shown the same service and respect as others.
