Halloween is going to look a little different this year. For the little ones who are chronically ill, Trick or treating is not going to be safe this year. Although this is super sad for children like my sister, I am on a mission to make this holiday fun still, while keeping her as safe as I can. Here are a few things that we are going to do this year to make things fun even in the midst of a global pandemic.
Dressing up
Yes, we are still going to get all made up in a costume, because, well, why not? This years theme is super heroes. No, we won’t go out to show these off but we will set up a make shift photo booth and post a few pictures for our family and friends to see.
Candy and snacks
Just because we are not tick or treating does not mean that we have to miss out on or favorite candies. I will be making up goody bags for each of the kids in our family tailored to what each child likes. It will cut back on the amount of candy (their dentist will be happy) and it will allow them to have what they like. I also will not have to go through all of the candy at the end of the night to make sure that nothing has been tampered with. Because we are not going out we get to have other spooky snacks, I mean its a great excuse to have some mozzarella sticks and potato skins.
Dance Party
And I am sure we would have had fun if we could going out with friends. But we will be warm inside in our costumes, dancing the night away. We will likely dance for probably about an hour before we move on to the next thing.
Movies, doughnuts, cider: This is a family tradition.
We always get cinnamon doughnuts and apple cider because there is nothing better to go with some halloween movies. We will pull the mattress into the living room with as many pillows and blankets that we can find and chill very comfortable in the living room with Hocus Pocus on the tv and maybe another movie or two depending on how tired everyone is. Then we fall asleep.
Yes, this year is going to look a little different for some. For those who are trying to protect themselves on Halloween, however, that does not mean that it has to be boring or that you have to do nothing to celebrate the holiday. Gather your close family. Do something that fills your soul and celebrate we are all still here living and yes, this situation sucks! However, we can embrace the suck and still have a good time!
Happy Halloween!!
