16 Things Only A Self Care Spa Goer Gal Will Relate To

Spa time is the best time as far as I am concerned. I am the type of girl that can find escapism behind the curtain of a quiet room and an inner calm in the steam room, hot spring and sauna. And I will be first in line when body treatments are back on the menu. Can someone say salt scrub?

Even in the midst of the pandemic and with little access to day spa life, I find myself creating a spa environment in my home. If you are like me, you can relate to these things.

1.) I cannot leave the store without at least four herbs. Rosemary is my very best friend. And I will put any herb in a vase around my house. Soap is an herbal experience!

2.) I have freeze dried Eucalyptus in my shower. To give my showers that spa fresh feeling.

3.) Did someone say tea? Mint leaves and a lemon and I am at the spahh thriving

4.) My laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid and hand soaps are all herby getaway scents. Did someone want to have an Herbes De Provence dish washing experience? Raises hand.

5.) The minute I come home, my bra is off. Because my home is a spa and who wears bras in a spa?

6.) My water has at least a lemon in it if not mint leaves, raspberries, blackberries, you get the idea.

7.) I snack on macadamia and fancy covered almonds, and crackers because, spa…

8.) If I cannot get the herb version, I need the ocean version.

9.) If you asked me about my favorite body treatment, I could tell you the spa location and the entire service from the menu and offer up a name of the therapist you should ask for at the spa.

10.) I only get my nails done at places that offer spa journeys for my toes. Because my pedicure is an experience and my toes deserve a journey.

11.) I cannot just have a hand lotion, it must be organic and herb infused.

12.) My toothpaste is herb infused. My shampoo too.

13.) I have a diffuser by my bed and next to my work space.

14.) I can tell you which essential oil will get you zen and which one will perk you up.

15.) Bath bombs, bath salts, and candles…I can make a spa day out of a bath, easy.

16.) I don’t just offer up a massage for my boyfriend. There is the calm app for waves, arnica and muscle balm for his back and of course an essential oil diffuser for pumping out some eucalyptus vibes.

How can I do a body spa at home with natural ingredients?

In today’s world, spa treatments are a way to treat your body and mind. They’re often seen as an indulgence or luxury item, but they can also effectively treat certain conditions. The spa industry is growing by leaps and bounds year after year – in 2020, it was worth $24 billion! That’s not too surprising when you consider the many health benefits spa treatments offer.

From alleviating stress to improving skin tone, there are many reasons people visit spas these days. For example, you can use a lavender spa set or things like Spa Luxetique. And while spa visits may sometimes feel like a splurge, they can save you money in the long run because of all the other benefits they provide (like helping with chronic pain).

Here are some tips on how you can do a spa treatment at home with natural ingredients.

1. Lavender spa set

You can do a body spa at home with lavender by using the essential oils from this plant. Lavender oil can be used in a few spa treatments, but a lavender-infused salt scrub is one of the most popular.

To do this spa treatment, you need:

* 2 cups coarse sea salt or Epsom salt * 10 drops of lavender essential oil * 2 tbsp almond oil (optional) * Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Store in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. In the shower, mix about 2 tbsp of the mixture with some water to create a paste. Scrub your entire body, then rinse. You can also add almond oil before scrubbing if you’d like an even more intensive spa treatment for your skin.

2. Lavender and a warm honey bath

If you want to do a spa treatment that will relax your entire body, then the spa tub is for you. If you’re new to spa treatments and aren’t sure which one to choose, this soak is very soothing and beneficial for the skin.

To make your spa tub:

* 1-2 tbsp dried lavender * 1/4 cup honey * Warm water

In a large bowl, combine the lavender and honey. Fill your spa tub with hot water – do not use boiling water as it may burn you! When the water level is comfortable for bathing, add some mixtures until bubbles form on top. It might take a little more or less of the ingredients depending on your spa tub. Simply relax and enjoy the spa treatment!

3. Lavender body pain relief massage

If you have chronic body pain, a spa treatment is definitely for you. A few spa treatments can help improve blood circulation and ease muscle tension, so if you want to give spa treatments a try, you should do this one.

To make your spa tub:

* 2 drops lavender essential oil * 3 drops frankincense essential oil * 2 tbsp carrier oil (e.g., avocado, jojoba or coconut oil) * Mix all the ingredients and store in a small glass jar with a lid. Massage the spa treatment all over your body, focusing on any painful areas.

4. Lavender-cucumber facial spa pack

Dead skin cells tend to accumulate on the face after a long day’s work or an active weekend. This spa treatment will help remove dirt deposits and free the pores of your face to make room for new cell growth.

To make your spa tub:

1. Crush 2 cucumbers to extract the juice. Combine this with 1 tbsp yogurt and 1 tsp honey in a bowl.

2. In another small bowl, combine 1 tsp chopped almonds, 1 tbsp oatmeal and hot water (enough that it’s almost boiling, but not quite). Leave both mixtures to stand at room temperature for 20 minutes.

3. Add the lavender essential oil and mix everything. Apply it on your face and neck, then leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off with warm water.

5. Lavender foot spa bath

This spa treatment will help soothe tired feet and improve blood circulation after a long day’s work.

To make your spa tub:

1 tbsp olive oil * 2 drops lavender essential oil * 4 drops frankincense essential oil * 1 drop tea tree essential oil Add all the ingredients together and mix thoroughly. Use this spa treatment once a week to improve blood circulation in your legs and feet.

6. Lavender face spa mask

This spa treatment is great for oily skin because it helps soothe irritated skin and reduce oil secretion in the process.

To make your spa tub:

* 1 tablespoon honey * 1 tablespoon lemon juice * 2 drops lavender essential oil * Combine all ingredients, apply to the face, and let it sit for 10 minutes before washing off.

7. Lavender and oatmeal spa pack

This spa treatment will help calm irritated skin, reduce redness and treat acne at the same time. People of all ages can use it because it’s completely natural!

To make your spa tub:

* 1 tablespoon oatmeal * 1 tablespoon honey * 1 tablespoon lemon juice * 2 drops lavender essential oil Combine all ingredients until you get a thick spa pack. You should apply it to your face and let it sit for 10 minutes before washing it off.

Now it’s time to enjoy your own spa!

Spring Break 2021

Most of us never thought we’d be here. A year later still dealing with spring break and Covid. Although spring break looks different this year, there are somethings that we can still do safely.

Family fun

Now I know, we have all be stuck at home with our families and many of you are probably like I’m over it. I totally understand. However, if we all have to be together anyway, let’s make the best of it. Go to the park for walks. Find a trail and take an adventure. Cook on the grill. Get outside and breath some fresh air!!

Road trip

It’s true we should still be playing it safe, but who says you can’t rent an Airbnb and get away? Take a friend, close family member, or your boyfriend and get away from the hustle and bustle because we all know that life hasn’t stopped just because we are dealing with Covid!

Self-care

Still uncomfortable going anywhere? I totally understand. Create a stay-cation. Whether that means pitching your tent in the back yard and building a bonfire. Have a spa night. Take a long hot bath. Read that book you have been meaning to pick up. Do something for yourself. Life has been hard. Take the time fore you.

Unplug

I’m not sure how anyone else feels but I know I’m on social media, media overload. So my plan is going to be to take part of my spring break and turn off my phone, computer, and maybe even tv. I’m so excited to just spend a couple days with my boyfriend relaxing. Talking and reconnecting.

No, we are not yet where we wanna be when it comes to Covid. I’m feeling the frustration too. Just remember whatever you do for spring break, if you are going to be with other people in crowds mask up. Keep your friends and family healthy!

Happy Spring Break!!

How To Give Yourself A Salon Quality Pedicure From Home

Your At Home Pedicure Awaits

Step 1: Grab Your Nail Kit

To make your at-home Spa style pedicure effortless from the beginning, gather your nail kit and the necessary tools including:

  • Nail polish remover
  • A Nail Diva (this is great for protecting your mani)
  • A bowl or basin (if you don’t have access to a bathtub or shower)
  • Cotton balls/pads
  • Pumice stone and/or exfoliating scrub
  • Non Acetone Nail polish remover
  • Moisturizer
  • Cuticle oil
  • Nail clippers and a nail file
  • Nail polish: base coat, topcoat and the color of your choice

You can buy a nail kit here

Step 2: Remove Toenail Polish

First thing’s first, before you start your at home pedicure you MUST (and I mean must) remove your old toenail polish. Use your nail polish remover, a cotton ball or pad, and clean your toenails as best as you can. The more polish you remove the better your fresh polish will look.

If you have a freshly painted mani, don’t worry, you can grab a Nail Diva (available for only $9 online) which cleverly holds your cotton ball/pad and protects your perfectly polished fingernails while you remove your toenail polish.

Step 3: Soak

Take a shower or soak your feet in a bathtub or basin of hot water (with or without Epson salts) for at least 5 minutes, to soften your skin. If you want the full spa feel, add a couple of drops of aromatic essential oil into the water.

Step 4: Scrub

Now that your skin is soft, it’s time to get rid of the dead skin. Because your at home pedicure requires exfoliation. Pumice stones and exfoliant scrubs work best. Use both or either of the two, and focus your scrubbing on the heels, balls and sides of your feet. Don’t overdo it, we’re only scrubbing until our feet feel soft again.

Step 5: Clip And File

Once your feet are soft to touch, grab your nail clippers and clip your toenails to your desired length. Use your nail file to smooth out the corners and edges.

Step 6: Show Love To Your Cuticles

In order to make your at home pedicure spa quality, it is important to care for your cuticles. Note: This step is often missed but so important for the health of your toenails and overall clean look of your pedi.

Apply cuticle oil to your cuticles, push them back if necessary but try not to clip them. Our cuticles protect our surrounding skin and prevent infection. If you find that your cuticles are dry and hard, use cuticle oil every day or at least once a week to soften them up and keep your nails healthy.

Pro Tip: Coconut oil is a great alternative if you do not have cuticle oil at home.

Step 7: Moisturize And Prep

Grab your favourite moisturizer and apply a good amount on each foot. While it’s soaking in, prep toenails by using toe separators, if you have them – if you don’t it’s not a big deal. Wipe down each toenail with rubbing alcohol to remove the nail bed of any excess oils. This important step keeps your toenail polish from chipping or peeling off.

Step 8: Apply Nail Polish

Apply a base coat to protect your toenails from staining, apply two coats of nail polish color, and then a quick-dry topcoat (my favorite is Essie – Good To Go).

If you’re not the greatest at painting your finger or toenails there are many tools that can help.

  • For smudged and chipped polish, you can use a Nail Diva to clean a specific nail, protecting your other fingernails from getting ruined.
  • If you’re a messy painter, you can purchase cuticle protector. Apply it to the skin around your nails before applying your nail polish and peel it off once you’re done.

Step 9: Maintenance

Moisturize as often as you can, use spa socks if you have them, and apply cuticle oil every other day or at least once a week.
