The Benefits Of Vegan Beauty Products

Whether you’re a beauty expert or just getting started with makeup, it’s important to know about what you’re putting on your face and body. Within recent years it’s been discovered that cosmetics are often the culprit of containing toxic chemicals adversely affecting consumers’ health.

Keep reading to learn more about vegan beauty and why it’s the best option to continue your beauty routine without being exposed to harmful chemicals and carcinogens.

What Is Vegan Beauty?

You’ve probably heard the term “vegan beauty” before, but what does it mean? Simply put, vegan beauty is similar to a vegan diet in the sense that no animal ingredients are used. Believe it or not, animal derivatives are commonly found in cosmetics, and as a result, the vegan beauty industry was born.

The vegan beauty industry is committed to not using animal products in any of its cosmetics. This includes avoiding animal cruelty and not using ingredients such as slaughtered animal fat, crushed claws or horns, and ground insects. And yes, these things are commonly used in non-vegan products. Vegan products also don’t use animal-derived products, such as honey or beeswax.

Benefits Breakdown

If you choose to begin using only vegan beauty products, there are numerous benefits such as:

● Less plastic waste as vegan beauty brands are also committed to better environmental practices
● Clean ingredients that aren’t coming from animals
● More nutrient-based ingredients that come from plants
● Vegan ingredients that the body knows how to process
● Less skin irritation

The largest benefit is that animals are not being harmed in the making of vegan beauty products and you can find satisfaction in knowing that your cosmetics are made from ethical ingredients.

Dangers To Be Aware Of

Even if a product claims to be vegan, there could still be other dangerous ingredients in the product. Many makeup products contain chemicals or carcinogens that aren’t regulated by the FDA, resulting in exposure that can lead to health complications. Two ingredients to look out for include:

Talcum Powder

One of the most common ingredients found in makeup products is talcum powder. This ingredient alone is not harmful as talcum powder is natural and comes from the ground. However the issue lies in that it’s mined near asbestos deposits, which is a known carcinogen, and the talc in makeup could become contaminated with it. Asbestos exposure can lead to diseases such as mesothelioma cancer, so it’s best to limit your usage of makeup with talc.

Phthalates

This group of chemicals can be found in beauty products as an additive for fragrance or durability. They’re banned in the European Union but not in U.S. manufacturing. Exposure can lead to health complications such as cancer, endocrine disruption, and reproductive toxicity. To avoid exposure to phthalates, look for “phthalate-free” on the label or avoid products that list “fragrance” as an ingredient to be safe.

How To Know If A Brand Is Vegan

To make sure that you know what you’re buying is safe, it’s important to know how to read packaging labels and know what symbols to look for.

If you want to ensure that your products are certified vegan, then look out for wording such as:

● Vegan
● Vegan-friendly
● 100% vegan

It’s encouraged to do your research before shopping around to learn about vegan makeup brands and what ingredients they use. Understand that some products may be vegan, but the brand that made it may not be considered a vegan brand.

Brands that still use animal products could have vegan beauty lines but are not a 100% vegan brand. If this is important to you, research your favorite brands to understand their stance and if they use animal products in their other cosmetics.

No one expects you to make the switch to a vegan beauty routine overnight. It takes time, research, and money but we know you can do it! Let us know your favorite vegan-friendly brands and products in the comments below.

How to Apply Skincare Products Using an Ampoule

Is it time to start adding an ampoule to your skincare routine? Ampoules are a Korean skincare product that has made its way over to the states. Those that consider themselves to be skincare junkies may have already heard about this nifty skincare product that so many are swearing by. So what are ampoules and why is everyone adding them to their bathroom cabinets?

Let’s discover how to use skincare ampoules properly to get the skin we’ve all been trying to manifest.

What is an ampoule?

Ampoules are an extremely potent concentration of active ingredients. To break it down even further, the ampoule is the vial that holds the actual contents. The contents within the ampoule are the serum and the best kinds of ampoules focus on very specific ingredients. This allows the serum to target specific skincare concerns, narrowing down the focus. Unlike heavy creams and moisturizers that take a long time to penetrate into the skin, ampoule serums are lightweight and absorb much more easily. With such a targeted focus that is able to get deep into the skin, incorporating ampoules into your skincare routine will have you seeing great results in just a few week’s time.

How to apply skincare products using an ampoule

Application is key when it comes to seeing actual results. Most ampoules will come with instructions on the packaging that let you know how to use the specific one you’ve purchased. However, there are a few basics that apply to any ampoule that you will purchase. You can choose to purchase one that you incorporate into your daily skincare routine that helps with your overall skin appearance or you can choose a skincare concern and tackle it from the next couple of weeks.

You’ll find that the ampoule typically comes in a one-dose vial or with a syringe (no needle necessary) to help you measure the perfect amount each time. After cleansing your face with your favorite face cleanser, simply follow up with the ampoule serum. Apply the recommended amount and massage it into your skin evenly, placing it all over your face, while avoiding the eye area, and including your neck as well. As you can see, adding ampoules to your skincare routine is an easy and effective way to begin boosting the appearance of your face.

Repairing skin with a Stem Cell Culture Ampoule

For those of you looking to combat aging or damaged skin, there’s a highly effective ampoule that we love. The Franz Skincare Stem Cell Culture Medium Ampoule is perfect for addressing skin that is beginning to show sun damage, fine lines, and sagging. Our stem cell ampoule uses a 10% concentration of skin cell culture that contains all the growth factors supporting supple and youthful-looking skin. Unlike whole human stem cells that are far too large to be added topically to the skin, we have broken down the stem cells into a culture derived from the media. This provides you with a serum that is highly concentrated and works to heal and regenerate skin that has begun aging. Apply the ampoule as needed knowing that Franz never compromises on quality or effectiveness when it comes to our products.

How to Declutter & Revamp Your Beauty Products for the Spring Season

Decluttering your kitchen pantries, revamping your wardrobe, and organizing your spaces is a normal way to kick start your spring season. But, you know what’s not traditionally part of a spring cleaning checklist? Your beauty stash.

In the same way that most foods and liquids expire, so does your beauty stash. But, unlike the expiration label that is typically listed on these products, determining the shelf-life of your cosmetics isn’t something you can easily figure out.

This is because the majority of beauty products do not come listed with a specific expiration date. Instead, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) requires manufacturers to have a batching code or period after opening (PAO) symbol to be listed on the packaging or labeling of their products as a means of expiration indication for consumers. Unfortunately, this regulation makes it all the more difficult to pinpoint the shelf-life of an item. Therefore, causing many of us to use expired makeup and skincare.

When’s the last time you gave your beauty stash some shelf-love? If the answer to this question remains unclear, chances are, your products are expired and in need of an upgrade. But, don’t worry, you’ve come to the right spot!

To learn how to declutter and revamp your beauty products for the spring season, there are three main questions you’ll want to answer:

Are there visible indications of expiration?

First and foremost, products that have passed their prime lose their efficacy over time. When this happens, the ingredients formulated within the product are no longer equipped to work as they were originally intended, meaning your skin is no longer being protected or treated correctly.

Regardless if you have or have not opened a beauty product, the loss of efficacy will inevitably occur over time. Be on the lookout for visible changes in the formula and note any differences in the color or separation of product as these are both indicators of an expired product. This is extremely important for those of you who’re currently using a specialized treatment product that contains an active ingredient as these tend to lose their potency much faster than those without.

Especially if left exposed to oxygen, certain treatment products that contain active ingredients like retinol are quick to become increasingly unstable. That being said, if you notice that your wrinkle-fighting retinol treatment is no longer producing the desired results and/or the formula looks visibly different to you, it’s probably safe to assume it’s reached its shelf life. Be sure to toss out the old product and replace it with a new anti-aging cream for spring.

Does the product negatively affect my skin?

On account of the fact that expired products lose their efficacy once they’ve reached their shelf life, it’s no wonder why continuous use of them can worsen skin conditions. The loss of efficacy causes the preservatives within the item to lose their quality as well, which makes it easy for microorganisms to proliferate rapidly.

As a result, your expired beauty stash then becomes a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. Consequently, by transferring the bacteria-infused product onto your complexion, your skin is more likely to experience a negative reaction. Whether it be redness, dryness, inflammation, or the development of acne breakouts, irritation and worsened skin conditions are bound to occur.

Make no mistake, even if the product you’re using isn’t causing a negative reaction, it doesn’t necessarily mean it hasn’t expired. Some cosmetics can have different effects on the body which can naturally lead to adverse results.

However, this doesn’t change the fact that your supplies may still be expired. That’s why it’s critical to keep track of other visible signs of expiration and mark down the dates in which you first try a new product as this will allow you to accurately measure the number of months you used it for after initially opening it. Or, use this cosmetic calculator to frequently check the shelf-life of your beauty products.

Does the product apply unevenly?

Another tell-tale sign of expired beauty products is when they no longer apply the way they used to. This is usually most noticeable when using a skin tint or another makeup item containing pigment as this allows consumers to visibly see that a product is no longer providing good coverage and is applying unevenly across the surface of the skin.

As previously stated, not all expired products will cause an adverse reaction. Depending on the cosmetic item you’re using, and the ingredients formulated within it, developmental skin concerns may not be the issue that comes from using it. For instance, applying mascara to your eyelashes after it’s reached its shelf-life will more often than not lead to an eye infection.

On the other hand, applying an expired face powder to your skin won’t necessarily cause an adverse reaction, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t infested with excessive microorganisms that are harmful to your skin. Rather than experiencing a particular skin concern or condition, it may cause other issues to arise, such as an uneven application of the product. If you notice your face powder has a change in texture and is starting to apply patchy, streaky, or even cakey on your skin, chances are, this product is past its prime.

Beauty products expire faster than you think

Your beauty products expire faster than you think. So this spring, it’s out with the old and in with the new!

As you prepare for the spring season, remember to consider the three main questions listed above as these will help guide you on which products are still good, and which are expired and need to be thrown away.

Once you have answers to these questions, you should then spend some time going through your beauty stash. And then get rid of any makeup or skincare products that are expired. In their place, treat yourself to some brand new cosmetic products that are suitable to use on your unique skin.

Makeup Colors, Trends, & Products That Are Perfect for Spring

Despite some of the cold weather that blew through March, spring feels like it has officially sprung. One of the most exciting things about the new season is new colors for the next few months. Whether it’s with clothes, shoes, accessories, or makeup, the beauty world has blossomed with new colors and trends.

The 2021 colors for spring will be based on “hope and optimism” and “playful thinking.” Instead of focusing on pastels like past seasons, this year will feature bright colors – Marigold, Burnt Coral, Raspberry Sorbet, Illuminating (yellow), Amethyst Orchid, and French Blue to name a few. Neutral and earthy colors are also included featuring Ultimate Gray, Desert Mist, Dark Mint, and Buttercream. So, what does that mean for makeup trends? Read on.

Emerald Smokey Eye

Instead of going with the classic black and grey smokey eye, jump into the emerald trend that is blooming this year. Revolution PRO has created the ultimate emerald palette ($15) with four shades that range from mattes to shimmers. If you’re looking for a wider shade range, Makeup Revolution sells the 18-shade palette called Forever Flawless ($15) that is made with cannabis sativa seed oil.

Bright Monochromatics

Take into account the colors of Raspberry Sorbet and Illuminating and find eyeshadows, eyeliners, and lip colors in the same bright shades. Makeup Revolution created a 28-high pigment shadow palette, Revolution X Patricia Bright Rich in Color ($25), that has bright neons and sparkles. Smashbox sells highly pigmented lip colors ($22) that feature bright purples and pinks to match whatever shadow you pick.

Blue Lashes

The 90s called and they’re looking for their groovy styles back. Not only are brights making a comeback, but blue eye makeup, specifically, is coming in hot. If you’re looking to hop on the 90s train, ColourPop makes a blue mascara ($8) that perfectly encompasses this year’s spring trend.

Bold Blush

Keep the bright theme going and find some bright, bold blushes. Milk Makeup makes a lip and cheek color stick ($15) in colors like Coral and Bright Pink. This product is a personal favorite and goes on beautifully. The formula is like butter and will leave your cheeks popping in just a few swipes.

Purple Liner

Much like the blue lashes, the purple liner is making a 90s comeback. L’Oreal Paris created the Infallible Pro-Last Pencil Eyeliner ($8) in purple that is waterproof and smudge-proof – perfect for the warming weather. With a gel-like formula, the product is perfect for tightlining.

Sparkles

Another thing that has made its way to the top of the trend list is sparkles – specifically on the eyes. Whether you’re looking for a light shimmer or heavy glitter, there are products that are perfect for the look you’re going for. If you’re looking for glitter, Urban Decay released a 12-color palette, Stoned Vibes ($27), that features glitter in green, purple, blue, and more. If you’d rather go with a lighter shimmer, BH Cosmetics created a Blueberry Muffin 16-color palette ($18) with pigmented shimmer colors.

Heavy Highlight

Coming from someone whose favorite makeup is highlight, this trend is one of my favorites. There are so many types of highlighters out there – pressed powder, gel, liquid, sticks… Just pick your favorite and you’re good to go. If you’re looking for a quick application from a pressed powder, Ofra Cosmetics has one of the highest ratings on the Ulta website. My personal favorite is ColourPop Super Shock Highlighter that comes in a creamy packed gel-like powder. It’s easy to blend and gives a perfect shine.

Spring has sprung! With these new makeup trends, you’ll be prepared for spring, along with collecting some really great products that you can use for a long time.

Hacks on How to Travel Light with Your Beauty Products

We’ve all been there: TSA‘s impossible rules, the possibility of your very expensive makeup being shattered or spilled while you’re 30,000 feet in the air… Trust me – been there, done that. I’ve unfortunately learned the hard way that people who work at the airport don’t care about your extremely limited-edition near-$50 Becca eyeshadow palette.

Harsh reality? Definitely.

If you’re sick of not being able to cram all your favorite products into an already-overstuffed suitcase, here are some tips for how to travel light while still bringing some killer products with you.

Grab Free Travel Sizes

Sephora has been a life-saver when it comes to collecting travel products – specifically perfumes. Instead of packing your favorite scent that only comes in an 8 fl oz. size, shop around Sephora, and find a more expensive one that you like; I’m talking Valentino, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent – the smells that could definitely put your VS Pink fragrance to shame. The sample size they give for free is minuscule, barely takes up space, and is TSA-friendly (meaning less than 2 fl oz.).

Sign Up For Freebies

One of my favorite parts of being on mailing lists for beauty stores is that they send you emails when you are eligible for free things for your birthday. Here’s the thing: companies don’t want to give out full sizes of their prestigious products, which turns out great for you when it comes to traveling. The impressive thing is, these stores will give you amazing products from prestigious companies. I got cream Milk blush, Dior mini mascara, Kat von D black mini liner, a mini setting powder from Bare Minerals… There’s half of a makeup routine right there.

Keep an Eye Out For Online and In-Store Deals

At Ulta, specifically, there are so many opportunities for free gifts in the store, meaning if you buy a certain amount of products from one brand, you could be given something travel-size for free. These offers are also available online and can be available for any brand sold – even skincare and hair care.

Realistically Plan Out Your Trip

If you’re going to be gone for a weekend, you may not need your new Morphe 35-shade eyeshadow palette and a full set of Jeffree Star lips colors. This is a chance to reevaluate the products that you’ll need that line up with your outfits or whatever else you’re coordinating with. Take a look around at a makeup store that already sells mini versions of larger things such as eyeshadows and contour palettes. Those are typically things that aren’t included in free samples, but the purchase is worth it – especially if you’re tight on space.

Find a Good Makeup Bag

One of the best things about packing light is that you don’t need to use as many little bags for things. Instead of using one bag for eye products, one bag for face products, etc., invest in a large, waterproof tote that you can store in your luggage or carry-on. Not only will this cut back on packing space, but all of your stuff will be in one place.

Traveling is already a hassle – don’t let packing beauty products weigh you down. With these tips, you’ll be able to (hopefully) bypass a good number of TSA restrictions and free up a lot of space in your bag for other things.

Whitening Cream – With Pros and Cons in 2021

Every woman has one desire, which is quite common. We all want a flawless glow; perfect facial skin. Beauty comes with prices, and the effects of beauty products can be good or bad. We all prioritize our facial skin; hence facial skin being a more sensitive part of our body. Other than that, the face counts as the mirror of our personality and recognition.

When we are talking about skin whitening creams, we all should all remember, first, that there is no such cream that you can call a “skin whitening cream.” Then, the first question that comes to your mind is, how I could achieve a flawless look?

Yes, you can improve your skin’s texture and complexion by using some natural ingredient-based skin whitening creams.

We all suffer from different skin-related issues like:

• Jojoba Oil, Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Vitamin E are also present as the main ingredients.

Cons of the Product:

• The presence of vitamin C can irritate sensitive skin.

5 Beauty Hacks Every Makeup Lover Needs to Know

I’ve had my Makeup Artist and Airbrushing certification for almost five years now, and from someone who knows a thing or two about makeup, there are simple hacks that everyone can do, no matter if you’re an expert or novice.

1. Shattered powder palettes

This has happened to every makeup lover at one point or another. Your new, expensive palette got smashed through TSA, your pet thought it would be fun to knock it off the counter, or maybe you just have butterfingers. Whatever the case may be, there is an easy fix to make that palette good as new. Take a few drops of rubbing alcohol and mix it into the broken powder with a toothpick. Make sure it comes to a paste-like consistency and then let it harden overnight. Good as new!

2. Dried up mascara

We’ve all been there… You use your very favorite mascara until it starts crumbling. And let’s be honest: mascara is expensive. Bring life back to your tube with a few drops of eye drops! It can be whatever brand you want, so grab some from your local drugstore or megastore and add it in. Your mascara will be back to its glory in no time.

3. The long-lasting lip

From someone whose pet peeve is lip color that lasts no longer than 30 minutes, there are some tips I’ve learned along the way that help that gorgeous color stick around. Apply a touch of chapstick, Vaseline, or carrier oil before adding your lip color for a moisturized base that will keep that color looking as bright as the moment you put it on.

4. Brightening liner

For the days when you just can’t ditch those Chanel bags under your eyes, white eyeliner will act as a brightener. White eyeliner also makes the eyes appear bigger, so tightline your bottom waterline with a pigmented pencil liner for that instant anti-sleep deprivation look. White liner on your eyelid will also add a fun twist to your makeup in just a few seconds.

5. The foundation test

We’ve all seen the infamous way to test foundation: the wrist. However, did you know your wrist is a different shade than your face? In order to find that shade that really matches your skin tone, drag a drop of foundation from your jawline to the middle of your neck. From there, find the shade that matches, and you’re good to go.

No matter how you do your makeup, there are always hacks to help you get the ideal look you’re going for or to help get rid of those pesky makeup problems that happen to the best of us. Follow for more tips, tricks, and hacks of the best world there is – the beauty world.

Replace All Beauty Products with These 4 Items

This is not just about saving money.

Although that always good! This is about using the healthiest things on your body. Some of the hair, skin, and dental products out there are totally toxic. The chemicals are absorbed into our pores and can enter the bloodstream causing a flurry of health and skin problems including acne, eczema, dandruff, and even cancer! Can you believe it!? The very things we are using to improve our appearance can actually be harming us!

There are some great companies that use 100% organic ingredients that may work great. However, they can be quite pricey. Here are 4 items that I have personally used for years on myself and my entire family that work wonders.

Coconut oil.

I admit – I’m completely obsessed with Organic cold-pressed virgin coconut oil. From the smell to it’s taste and how it makes my skin and hair glow and shine. I think I have found over 1,000 uses for coconut oil on the internet. Cleaning, toothpaste, hair growth, cardiac health, and arthritis to name a few. It is even anti-carcinogenic (cancer fighting), anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral. No wonder it’s been called one of the healthiest foods on Earth!

Here are a few Ideas:

  1. Conditioner – Dab a pea-size amount on your hands and run through your hair from scalp to ends. Best de-frizzer I’ve ever used!
  2. Body Moisturizer – Rub in from head to toe. Give yourself a good massage.
  3. Toothpaste – Ingredients:
  • ½ cup coconut oil.
  • 3 Tbsp baking soda
  • 10 drops cinnamon oil.
  • 10 drops clove oil.
  • 5 drops peppermint oil.

Directions:

  1. Run container of coconut oil under warm water to melt oil.
  2. Combine all ingredients and stir until oil cools.
  3. Pour mixture into a small jar and seal with lid.
  4. Put some of the mixture on a toothbrush and scrub away!

Baking soda

Is there anything you can’t use baking soda for? It keeps the fridge smellin’ good, cleans bathrooms and kitchens, whitens teeth, and can be used as a shampoo and skin exfoliator! Need I say more?
